Thanks Stephen. Over at port Lincoln spending the proceeds holidaying with the family. How to get this 179 home? It’s been in a shed for 30 years minus spark plugs. Only done 30000 miles apparently.

Been endeavouring to leave the doors alone. Til now...ImageI must say they are on very good shape. Including all the hardware. ImageNo repairs for a change, just clean refurbish paint. Image

Old rubbers are like charcoal Paddy. I sourced one side rubber for $5 at Gawler swap. In the past I have bought bailey and door belt by the metre. Can you still do this?

Rates have the rubbers available as separate bits and they fit well - decent bailey channels also.

Rares will be last resort Rob though thanks and not to bag them. You do pay a premium and not questioning that but this is fairly generic stuff. Vent window seal excepted. I was lucky to snaffle one and good to know they are available singly as Per my recollection.

Anyway, flipped the car on its side. ImageImageTo Fix thisImagePassenger side front spring mount chassis Chanel thingmebob.

You sure those are FB/EK Holden doors? I thought they left the factory with NASCO rust already installed?

Cheers,
Harv

Clay,

The more you look, the more you discover . . .
. . . in this case rust.

It doesn't look like the utes have particularly fantastic torsional rigidity at the rear. Are there any fatigue cracks in the box sections?

Rob

No cracks Rob. I’d say righty similar to sedan. Although there is less bracing over the rear wheels than sedans there is plenty of extra cross members and such. I reckon the riser panel at the front of the diff hump is key and will ensure this is thoroughly attached.

I’ve started on the diff hump as it is readily accessible with the car up on its side.ImageImage

Also the top hat section that runs along the top of the diff hump as this ties in the shocker mounts. Image
I intend to pay particular attention to this part to ensure rigidity.

Filled a big holeImageImageImage
Turned out to be a long fiddly job but the rest will be easier. I hope. Still got the inner guard to do but best leave of for access to the end of the top hat brace.
