Hey Greg as you said to me mate take a step back and chill man, this sedan is a credit to you and you can't let it get you. The chrome thing is a real issue in Aus due to I believe EPA and the whole chroming process is not able to be done along with the fact that a lot of our older manufacturing has gone. Mate have a look at Frank this is why bumpers etc are painted and grill and bonnet bar etc are the best of the older stuff I could find.
The converter mate? as said can't be much wrong there I know it is a pain but drop the box and check the flex plate something doesn't sound right.
Regards
Neil.

I wonder if there is a loose vane in there, as no doubt do you Greg. No at that. Outdoor get inside the trans is there? Get the body sorted then worry about it would be my approach.

Thanks Guys,

I'm going to finish the painting then pull the motor to get the convertor out.

I've heard this type of noise before in an auto but only a high millage one, I just hope there no metal in the gearbox yet.

Actually the torque convertor is a wild piece of gear, they are quite a precision built item. I have never seen the internals in the flesh but the net has heaps of info on how they work, there is moving parts inside including some bearings and that's what I think is wrong.

I will keep you posted.

Greg

Flexplate lessons I learned the hard way (you’ve probably already checked these):

The flexplate only goes on one way. Convex to motor or convex to gearbox... I still can’t remember, but lost a few hours confirming which way is correct when I bolted it up for the first time.

The aftermarket dust covers are thin, bendy, and need trimming to stop them rubbing on the rotating assembly.

If the starter key is sticky, the starter doesn’t disengage, and it sounds like the world is ending (thanks Grace for showing me that one).

Converter to flexplate bolts are a pain to get at. Would be possible to have one loose or under-torqued.

Case savers were sometimes installed to recover worn boxes. If the case saver comes out, it will rattle away merrily in the pan.

Cheers,
Harv

They are buckets from a commodore, I'm not sure if they are VN or VL ?? but they taper in at the the top and suit the curve of the B pillars.

So,

After having a nice good paying job I get a new young punk kid out of uni trying to tell me what is best for myself and the company moving forward !!!

I tell him you know where this goes ????? He chucks a wobbly gets suspended from his role and I get a redundancy !!! win win I say.

So now a new job and a shift one at that ! Suddenly I have heaps of spare time so back into the old girl again, so to speak.

I am almost finished the painting and there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel, its marvellous what a spell away can do for motivation.

Got some creamy clear on base going again !

Sorry to hear about the job mate but glad you found something fairly quickly by the sounds if only a stopgap - going to be a lot of revolving door moments for a while in this country.

Love the colour mate it's really looking purdy - sure the box will be an easy fix. :peaceout:

Got all the rubbers from Clarky so as soon as the paint dries I'll put the guards on.

Very exciting Greg. Did you paint the inside guards with clinker grey or just the front bits?

Hi Clay,

Painted both with clinker grey but on the inside it is over UPOL stone guard.

Thanks Greg. Very thorough. I used the upol stone guard in my tray and lower sills. Seems to work well. I glued the guard gasket to the subframe with contact which also worked well.
