Nup - not my weather to spray...

Not closed yet, but you'll have to be ready if it opens up.... we can still get a few warm and relatively dry days yet before winter.... I wouldn't mothball the spray gear yet....

fingers crossed for you (just not the damaged ones).

I have committed to an upholsterer that will start next week.

Interior is as close as I can get to the original colour. So no pressed patterns it will all be stitched to replicate the original theme.

Should look classy Greg. So single colour matching the paint, or match original interior?

Its as close as i can get to the original vinyl. Its funny the true colour of the door cards still exists under the arm rests and looks nothing like the faded seats and door cards !
Its two tone, top of door cards maroon as are the seat inserts and the rest is the tan, rust colour.

Sounds great. The sun fades vinyl and paint. I had a similar experience with silver and red interior I put in an EK once. Got material to repair the rear seat top an ended up blending with VHT vinyl spray.

Looking forward to seeing the outcome.

Hi Greg your story is a great read! I just read it all in one go (working from home...) after looking at how you did your seatbelt b pillar anchor plate - which I intend to copy :wink34: Great tips and knowledge sharing from you and all the other usual suspects which I am always in awe of. This is a great forum.

The more that goes back on, the better that colour looks. The original colours are really beautiful on the body shape.

Thanks Guys,

Has anyone pulled apart the wiper pivots or know whats inside them, I have a couple but they are all stiff to move bar one. I'm thinking there might be a rubber inside or the grease if used is thick and binding.

Unfortunately it looks like a grind of one end may be required to get them apart.

Greg,

I've reconditioned a couple of HD/HR wiper pivots.

The splined bit where the wiper arm goes on is itself is a press-fit onto a knurl at the end of the shaft. In EK wiper pivots it may be that you have to drill out a flare, where the (splined hub) is staked onto the shaft. Then the shaft and bell crank will slide out.

There'll be two bronze bushes (3/8" ID? x 1/2"? OD x 1/4" long) pressed into the housing. When Sintered Alloys in Petersham was in business, replacements were easy. There were two oil seals at each end. Aamando on Silverwater Rd had almost the exact size (did take reducing the OD a little to make fit).

The shafts will no doubt be flogged out. I got the guys in the workshop to make me replacements (out of stainless, as that was the only round of the right size they had), and I ground the peened bit where the crank fits on, and MIG-welded the crank onto the new shaft. The bushes needed reaming to size too.

And finally I put grease nipples in and filled them full after assembly. There's room for grease nipples with HD/HR. The main problem is that water gets in past the oil seals.

Ok I have a spare ek pair which appear to be servicable. They move freely, though one has a slight squeak.

Which side do you need Greg? I will send it to you if you want, with arm intact so you can just bolt up. Bent driver side arm or straight passenger side if I have it right.
