It's just a crook valve, Brodie. Get out the old valve spring compressor and rip all of 'em out and grind a new set in. It's a piss easy job to do..plus you can stick a new set of 'stem seals' on at the same time.

G'day Scotty, yeah your right its an easy job but its a low comp 202 head so i dont really wanna waste time and money on it. Plus the engine itself is pretty tired and one of the bores is a bit scored

Yep, for the sake of a carton its not worth messing around
I thought cleaning the underside was bad... but i think paint stripping takes the cake!

Yep the new engine has a bit of a cam in it, around 25/65 apparently, holley and ive got some extractors

Pulled the new engine apart and cleaned it up, it was real sludgey but in good nick apart from the cam.. the engine had a miss that was thought to be electrical, but after seeing how chopped out the cam was realised a few of the valves wouldnt of been opening So that cam came out, and we threw in the other cam that i was going to put in the 186. Got it in then Paul came over with the degree wheel.. Thought we'd just measure it and see what it was (cam came out of an old 179 that was built over 10 years ago so we had no idea what i was). Paul works his magic and sizes it up....... its an absolute monster 40/80 Would of been fun if we didnt measure it, it would of been an 'interesting' first start up But i dont have shares in BP so needless to say i pulled that out straight away, and should be putting a 30/70 in shortly

Chassis kit is finished We used 75x50, pictures will pretty much explain what we did. Its fully welded and you cant see it from outside the car, its all tucked up under the sills. Its over engineered for a six, but it'll be getting the V8 treatment down the track.
The car should be pretty solid.

















My deadline im working towards is a local show, Armadale Auto Parts Open Day.. One of the larger events in Perth. Thats on the 28th of November so it'll be a push but im hoping i'll make it.

Also a big thanks to Paul (HPaddict) and another mate Brian who have been helping me out lately.. I wouldnt of known where to start trying doing a chassis kit like that on my own. Cheers guys

G'day Jake, if i had of answered you back then i would of said there was a good chance coz i could work on it pretty much everyday, but i scored a job which has slowed everything down with this side of things heaps unfortunately.. Hows yours looking? are you gonna make it there ?

First of all, please excuse the shitty phone pics

Gearbox crossmember has been made up, we used 75x25 as well as some 5mm plate stitched to it for extra strength. It has captive nuts welded in the ends to bolt to the plates that we welded to the chassis kit. The drop works out to be 65mm from the rail to get the right angle, and i have to get 8 degrees worth of wedges for the diff coz at ride height it has negative 2 degrees pinion angle :S




Tunnel is in and the bracing underneath is done. Its fully welded on the top, on the underside i just trimmed back the over hanging floor and tapped it up so it was flush with the edge of the tunnel and then ran sikaflex over the join. Bracing is just 5mm flat plate bent up to suit and stitched in.

Front end, motor and box is all in for good.. underside is nearly all shutz'd, got a bit at the back that needs doing and some other areas that need re-texturing.

Basically its all re assembly now, which hopefully shouldnt take too long.. summers nearly here
