Hi Finny,
Here's another FB ute to add to the list:

Body FB2106-7959-S
Trim 528-832 ("Mephisto Red" trim)
Paint 585-9892 ("Seagull Grey")
Our ute has its original engine, so I thought I'd add the engine and vehicle serial numbers:
Engine # B125151 (foundry stamps 26-Nov-1960 and 27-Nov-1960)
Vehicle serial # FB16789B (as far as we can tell, this is approx. Dec 1960)
I'd be interested in knowing how many FB utes were made and, better still, how many are still on the road. :-) Does anyone know approximate numbers?
Also, could anyone help with these questions please?
1) Does "FB2106-7959-S" means it's the 7,959th FB **ute** body to be made in Sydney, or it is the 7,959th of all FB body types to be made in Sydney?
2) Was the vehicle serial number a unique number across all FBs, or was it unique only to the assembly plant? I'm guessing it's the latter.
3) Where were FB engines made? Fishermans Bend?
Thanks heaps!
Cheers .... jacquie

Jacquie, I might add columns for the Engine and body numbers.
Questions 1 & 2. Don't know, have asked the same questions myself. I also asked Holden but they haven't answered yet.
Given the total number of FB and EK's produced.
Holden FB
Production: 174,747
Holden EK
Production: 150,214 (Must be the rarer one)
And also that the list to date shows the highest numbers as 32,000 for FB and 10,000 for EK, I am going to assume that they are double ups (not unique numbers).
FB numbers are going a lot higer that the EK's, maybe Sydney did their own thing. But even if you multiply the numbers so far by 3 (S,M,A) it's still a long way short of the total. Especially for EK's.

Hi Finny,
I hunted around and found some info that may help.
Re the body number on the ID Plate: A post on the FE/FC forum that says that this was sequential and was unique for each body style for each plant. I also re-read a reply Dr Terry kindly gave to some similar questions that I'd asked earlier this year. He said "The body number (on the body plate) will read something like FB-2106-3456-S. Where FB-2106 signifies that this is an FB ute & 3456S signifies that it was the 3456th ute body to be made in Sydney. (the 3456 is only an example). If the body was built it would have an A or M for Adelaide or Melbourne." I'd forgotten I'd asked the question ... old age must be creeping in!
Re the chassis number: The same FE/FC post says it was a sequential number that was unique to each plant.
And re the EK being rarer of the two ... well, I think I'll leave that one well alone!
Cheers .... jacquie

I had previously also looked on the FE/FE forum on models and their register info, looked good. Dr Terry always has good info.
It appears that the Standard and Specials may also work on the same process, either that or they stopped making the standards early.
The 215's and 219's recorded so far are all low numbers.
So, based on what has been provided, does that mean that there are at least 14 or possibly more of each number,
or at least the lower numbers. (So far can only see 2106's made in Sydney and 2104's being made in Adelaide). 215, 225, 219, 229 x 3 (Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne) plus 2104 and 2106.
We could therefore find a :-
FB 215 867 A = 867th Standard sedan made in Adelaide.
FB 215 867 M = 867th Standard sedan made in Melbourne.
FB 215 867 S = 867th Standard sedan made in Sydney.
FB 225 867 S = 867th SPECIAL sedan made in Sydney.
FB 219 867 S = 867th Standard WAGON made in Sydney.
FB 229 867 S = 867th SPECIAL WAGON made in Sydney.
FB 2106 867 S = 867th Ute made in Sydney.
Plus all the others from Adeliade and Melbourne.
As to rarity, maybe we could agree to just stick to facts. Less EK's were made than FB's. As to how many of each survive today (rare), that's unknown (at this stage).

I googled "FB2106" and "EK2106" and found two FBs with "M" in the body (not chassis) number. The rest were Sydney-assembled. So that makes it at least 15 combinations, without adding in the FBs that have EK ids.
If it helps at all, the chassis, body and engine in our ute are all original (we have some of the original paperwork). The delivery date was 4-Feb-1961 and, judging from the reggo renewal date, I assume the first registration date was 3-Feb-1961.

ok, dont have the technology to post a picture,
however, here is the details:
BODY: FB 2106 - 8954 - S
TRIM: 529 - 833
PAINT: 585 - 0115 (first digit may be 5 or 6, its hard to tell)
INSERT
TOP
Its a 1960 FB Ute,
would love it if someone could fill me in on the rest.
Not 100% sure what the original colour is, there is so many layers of paint.
Cheers
Greg

strike me down, and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
Jacquie, what did you actually google to get the M ?????
Did you do a web search or an image search.
I get absolutely no relevent matches other then the FBEK web site.
Updated register. Have added the Frame and Engine info fields.
