I typed for 20 mins yesterday replying and it dropped off the face of the earth , my computer is full of bugs so Ill be flying under the radar for a bit .

I guess in reply to Cooper customs - we need to see pictures ,are you saying the rear glass waqs left stock height and the roof was chopped down ? hmmm
The quarter windows are my favourite thing on the car and it gets hot in a small cabin so Ill keep em ,

Yesterday I wrote how when I chopped the ute it was going to get a nice deep dark purple paint job but 3 weeks out to going to the summernats I realised I could make it ,so I shot some flatt black over it , I sat back and had a drink looking at it for an hour and figured it looked to plain around the front , so me and the missus masked up the flames ,bought 4 flavours of pressure packs and flamed it .

Whilst at the nats a guyt almost runs up to me to tell me how much he loved the car and how he was building one the same , and how he had the exact smae paint job in mind . (Im thinking at the time I didnt want this paint)

Fast forward a year or so and that guy is at tug in the park with his chopped EK ute in deep dark purple ......

Now fast forward another heap of years (who knows where theyve gone) to now and the ute isnt the paint I wanted ,its chaffed through to the various colours of primer I used by the tarps blowing in the wind over the years and its got some rust patches to weld in (new paint wont match) the tubs attatched to the quarters will burn paint off ,and the rear body is now wider ...
I love the look on someone elses car but Id prefer it to look clean ,so I might try to get it through rego like this but time will tell , I do like the paint on the EJ trolley
It would be cool to have a paint job I dont care about again though , considering it will be my only mode of transport ,so Ive got some flatt metalics in mind also.

i think the ute cooper is refering to was advertised on here and was on ebay a couple of times, chop was done by paul cundy, can't remember the username of the person on here that had it but he has other FB/EK's

harko, I should of been more elaborate, my appologies, the ute we picked up was chopped down on a factory size window, it does look ok, but like i said, i think ur idea with the small rear window looks awesome!

Heres my learning curve for today .
Lately I have been making the inner wall of the wheel tubbs for the ute , squaring them up so they become a reference point for me to measure off to the quarter panel ,Im going to spot weld the tub to the quarter rather than have a wall that drops down to the guard opening as per factory.

Im here at this point beacause I had the body centered squared and adjusted to be in its exect position before final welding.
Ive sussed out what dimensions I need to cut and fold my sheet metal to mate the body to the floor pan but to do it succesfully I needed to lift the body off one more time clean up all areas to be welded and attatch some sections before dropping the body back over ,Its too confined behind the cab at the lower sections of the quarter panel to do it whilst in position.

Anywayz so I had the body hung off balance with an engine hoist ,I dont have any decent tools to support a body lifted so high (mistake number one)
I was supporting it under the spare wheel door to help balance it aswell



I used some steel tube to balance on while I incrementally lifted it and readjusted the jack stand at the back to gain height all the while thinking "I should be doing this with a mate" (red flag number one)
Im in a confined area with the 57 along side and the bench close on the other ,Im lifting jacking tilting ,packing ,pushing pulling within this space (read fighting the bastard) when "bang"




The arse slid a little and unblanced the body then launched the jack stand and dropped off tilted and swung.
I tried hard to grab it as a reaction but it had other plans.





I got it back into position ,theres no dents on the 57 and none on the ute but its got the taste of blood now "Mongrel Dog"

Then I went inside to wash up and found a seed hmmm wonder what it will grow

Crikey you were lucky not to dent anything...or more to the point lose a finger or hand...

Ended up getting all four sills trimmed and prepped in the arvo but working under the thing sure had me focussed.
