Hi Patrick, how's Covid free Perth? I cut both springs shorter this arvo and Rares lock handles then slipped on without any trouble. Still could not get Rares winders to stay on. Polished up 2 old ones and they went on easy. I am suspicious these Rares winders are not right. If I can get organised I will take some measurements. Wonder if others have had success and it's just me? So much time lost on this stuff.

Mucked around and there is a definite issue with Rares winder handles. They are too tight on the splines. Might be too much chrome in there. Pity, but I will be using Wilma's old ones which are not as shiny but OK - and slip on with no fuss. New door handles OK.

Installed the window channels on the drivers side this morning. Managed to get drivers door done without any damage but made a fool of myself on the passenger outside belt so off to Speeds at Mitchell tomorrow on the way to Goulburn to pick up another one( that is not dented).

One small advantage of doing your own paint is if you do make a chip, there's plenty of paint to dab on.

Photo of drivers door before I put card back on. I bought a 4 door kit from supercreep which is pretty good. Mastic type double sided tape is easy and clean to use and plastic sheet nice and thick. Photos below.

With the winders have you tried scraping some of the chrome off the inside to see if they fit better?

I'm going to have a crack at jamming a wire brush on a die grinder down the splines and see if that does enough.

The four door kit has enough tape and plastic to do 8 doors. I've got one whole sheet of two left, and a lot of tape. Maybe 2door kit would be enough for a sedan. Might be worth checking quantities.

I used 57 Chev door handles on mine - because I had some. They are all but identical , cheaper and way better quality. I bought them from Danchuk.

Finally got doors assembled. Rares winders fitted on easily after I ran a wire brush (on an air grinder) inside and cleaned up the excess chrome on the splines. Like different fittings.
Lots of degrees of difficulty getting drivers door card fastening clips aligned to holes but got there in the end. Some gratuitous photos of interior. Reminds me, I still need to heat up a few wrinkles in the headlining.

Photo of part of a set of Toledo trim tools I got from supercreep. Very handy to have for the trim work. Recommend them.

Still have to align back doors but jumping over to installing back bumper bar now to get a change of scenery for a bit. I get stale on jobs quickly

Yeah you are right Blacky- spooky. I've kept the original door cards and back seat if someone down the track wants to go original again. Cards were falling to bits but vinyl wasn't too bad on the doors.

While you are on page 1: can someone please tell me if that aircleaner is an FB one?

2nd question for today: anyone know of or can post a picture that shows rear bumper pieces apart? Also, is there a spacer/ washer/ fitting between side bumper piece and quarter panel?

Between the rear bumper corners and the body there are rubber spacers. Buy a black rubber doorstop from Bunnings, drill the hole all the way through, and cut it to length.
