A mongrel job. I struggled with the Rares ones, as did Dad. Suspect the new round clips are mild steel, and deform (rather than spring back). Use pleeeeeeenty of masking tape. Don't ask how I know

Something not right but as long as it works and you're happy with it. Our FC was lock, unlock. Could it be any stiffness or wear in the lock mechanism?

Mine turn 1/4 turn and are lock and unlock (though I did have to bend one of the tabs on the driver's side to make it work)

I used the better auto rubber felt strips...from memory I had to squeeze the pins first...and also tapped them in with a bit of angle (as per the rare spares YouTube vid)

Edit...had to move some clips

Trip to Rares produced better clips that are springy and have and indent. Easy job to swap them over.

Changed Rares clips were a breeze to pop in. Had to take off the clips for the front ones anyway as it turns out, because all four were spaced for the outside passenger front. Different spacing for the inside belts and outside drivers.
Final bit of bling on today so couldn't help but post another set of Wilma sides.
Rear doors need angling up a tad and all four striker plates yet to be installed.

Looks like back to mechanicals later next week. Main program: Brake adjustment and bleeding, front springs and sway bar, wheels, wheel alignment and steering wheel assembly then engine gearbox, tailshaft and exhaust.

Looking the goods now mate I like the cradle

It's getting too heavy for the cradle now Blacky. I can hardly roll it around. No way I could put the engine in it on the cradle, which is a bit of a shame because clearance underneath is handy.

Seems it is better to get lengths cut to size and fit clips. They need to be pretty precisely fitted or its a pita. I've wrecked a few doors so just re-use old clips. Works fine.

Pretty exciting. Can't wait to see her in the metal.

Very frustrating day. What is the secret to getting Rares door hardware to clip on and stay on?passenger front door finished (and will have cross words with upholsterer at some point) but had to use an old winder handle. Rear passenger door together but whatever I do I cannot get these handles to engage. I have tried them on mechanisms off the doors and they go on with a fair bit of soft force but not as easy on the door. Help

Make sure the clips are pushed home horizontally.

Trims off (swear). Test handles/locking clips.

If ok, see if you can thin down the padding around the handle backing plate.

If using aftermarket plastic backing plates, trade for original steel ones (they are thinner).

Revert to brute force. Swear when it works, but you are one spline out.

Thanks for the ideas gents. I checked all the splines when I was cleaning up and lubricating the mechanisms and the old and new handles worked on my bench testing. I am using the new plastic spacers so will try and track down some metal ones from the boneyard and give that a go. Its got to be the door cards width I guess

Another's suggestion is to cut the springs down one coil to compensate for the thicker materials.

Been thinking about this. Will check tomorrow if Rares springs are too long and binding up and stopping card from pushing back onto the shaft enough. Just saw your post after I wrote that Clay. Great minds....
