Just getting back to your windscreen cracking.

I cracked a screen once ( Toyota Corolla ) when I shut the drivers door...didn't have any damage/chips previously done and it wasn't slammed shut either.

Also saw a bloke shatter a non laminate screen in a HQ once when he threw hot water on a frosty screen. Both the shattered glass and the hot water literally fell through onto the front seat of the car!!Wasn't me thank god.... I was driving past when it happened!!

Temperature variations ( even slow variations ) seem to upset screens as well as momentary pressure variations ( as told to me by a windscreen fitter ) can crack an otherwise good screen ie:- all vents closed in a car and door is slammed creating a momentary air pressure increase.Theory probably only really applies to newer cars though as our old cars aren't really that well draught proofed.

Perhaps body flexing during rebuild can put the windscreen fitting area of the body a poofteenth of an inch out enough to make a difficult fitment and subsequent tension on the screen??
I'm no expert on panelbeating/body repair procedures but it's just something I thought of that may explain a good screen cracking.

Will be looking forward to seeing this car at the nationals Malcolm whether the box is working OK then or not.... no one will be laughing at it that's for sure....... alternatively, look for an old grey FB.... thats mine..... they'll all be laughing at that!!   ( if it gets there :? )

Malcolm wrote:No not a stupid thought, the gearbox man said the same thing, its just that I don't have or know anyone who has a supercharged box laying around to try. Will worry about it later.

But for now, its cleaning and polishing and drinking beer. :D
i reckon any vt commodore gearbox should do the trick, yeah sure the supercharged box might have different bits in it or whatever but as far as wiring and external mounting i don't think theres a difference.

Sounds good :D

Just a thought, I noticed your shifter, is BM type, are you actually getting 4th gear on the manual shift rod, and did you bypass the power/economy button. If you did its possibly not getting a ground through the switch to Powertrain control module, for 4th gear operation.
As I said just a thought:

Hey guys,

Talked with the transmission guy again today and he has a couple of more things to try with the box next week before we try another box all together.

John the shifter is getting all gears no problems and the power / econ button is still there (a switch on the dash)
Its a problem that has got everyone scratching their heads.
But I'm thinking positive

Hi Mal.
Good luck at Yamba mate! The car is nothing short of outstanding and would be the pride possession in anyone's shed! After Yamba I will be humbuggin' you about some of the suppliers you used as I now have most things to get our EK's body work done, just having trouble finding a few items that I saw on a smick yellow Supercharged V6 EK!!

Once again, well done and I look forward to meeting you all in person next year with V8EK4US!

Cheers

Garry :D :D

I signed up just to say I have followed the progress of this car since page 14 with great pleasure seeing it come together.
If you are having issues with the gearbox call STONE Racing in Kwinana WA , they built mine and I use it purely for drags and burnouts , hasnt missed a beat !
I have a 12 second VS Calais with the same motor as you have done , albeit slightly enhanced . .
I also have a spare transmission you could use but ummm , its a bit far to Kalgoorlie from where you are to try it out :(

If your interested in modifications to your motor or with any technical issues visit us at www.l67torque.com

Hahah nah mate sorry any car thats older than me is just asking for trouble :)
There was actually a link posted on our forum in regards to the engine conversion , Im a car nut and follow with interest this build.
I fit car stereos for a living so work on them all day long and enjoy seeing any cars modified/built :)
Given the issues with newer model gearbox here I thought I would give my suggestion given mine has been THE MOST abused box in L67 history !

I would show you proof but you tube is down :(
