Working on seat mounts today.
I don't think my commode seats are going to work. To get them level and above the rounded floor brace, they end up about 55mm higher than the standard bench seat. I have thought about various ways to lower them (apart from changing the shape of the floor!) but because of the way the frames are built- with the position mechanisms really low on the frame, I think it's not a goer.
Unless someone has a set of buckets in mind that are designed to sit very low, I think I will be going back to bench. Raises new problems with a 4speed floor shift but the linkage modifications can sort that out. I was looking forward to buckets too
HELP

I removed the height adjusters off a pair of Commode seats when I built my HK ute years ago , I then bent the adjuster bar up to clear the floor and managed to get them quite low

I had HX buckets in my sedan. Had to raise the mounts by about 50mm so they cleared, but they were a good height and very comfy. These days I think they look poxy and in any case those seats would be very sought after now, and therefore expensive.

A picture tells a thousand words. I'm not too worried about the mounts- I can box that in and carpet it. But, the height is not going to work and the seats need to be adjustable for us both, so I can't just cut all that off.

That right there is why I asked you about if you were going to do a flat floor seeing as you were cutting out most of what was there ......

Have a look at the V8EK4US build thread , Gaz used VN seats in that and they weren't that high

I see your problem. You need a set that has the sliders up in the seat base more rather than flush with the floor. That is how the HX ones are. The mounts extend down from the base so that they can bolt to a surface around 50mm lower than the hump. Others have used Morris Minor and beetle in the past but probably no5 available any more. Go to u pull it and look for some jap seats that have clearance in the middle. Or go with the bench. Roger is using a bench/ bucket from a jap dual cab from memory and it has a recess for the shifter. Anyway Brett donβt you want to snuggle up to your sweetheart at the drive in?

Yes I remember. The hump thing was the only bit that didn't need cutting though.

Thanks for that Blacky. it's an inspiring build that one. Problem is my mounts are the same principle but his seats must be lower in the frames. I think I will go with the bench I have (which is upholstered with door cards ready to go) to get me to the Nationals and then have a think later on.
Like your thinking Clay

Well, even though Clay's snuggle thought is appealing, I stumbled across a $100 set of 2007 Subaru Forester seats on Gumstump yesterday morning and grabbed them. As you can see, they fit perfectly and the added bonuses are that the floor mounts almost bolt straight on to the floor as is and they don't need any upholstery work as the covers are pristine. My black and silver door cards will work with this cloth too. Happy Sunday.
