Rob thanks for the good tip about the control arm, I was just about to bolt the front end onto the subframe when I read this.

I’ll pull it off and for the control arms before going any further.

Bloody rare spares are so annoying.

Opened the kit for the lower inner bushes…

3 of the type in the left and 1 of the type on the right.

Annoys the piss out me this kind of shit.

Well I thought I just fit the odd bush anyways even though it los different..

Guess what?

It’s a different fecking size and it won’t fit now I’m stuck.

Rates reckon it will be while before they have another to replace it with.

Car Parts Plus have that sort of stuff on shelf. Cheaper. Rares are a useful last resort to me.

I can't read the labels on the packets properly (my eyes are dim I can not see...).

Called Rares Sydney, they have the inner lowers in stock, but not the inner uppers (they are backorder till end-Jan).

If you need the inner lowers, I can squirt over there tomorrow and get them into the post for you.

I got the control arms on before doing a final fit of the front end to the car, thanks again Rob for the tip of literally saved me a big head ache.

But I’m here thinking you guys are having a laugh!!!
Surely this front mount is not right?

It’s bloody squeezed the guys out of the lower part of the rubber and it got a near 1/2 inch gap on top!

It look just plain wrong to me!!!

All spacers are back in the original positions and I doubled checked the lengths etc against the book so I’m absolutely sure it’s done right!

All good. If you get into dramas with posting the Sydney Rares stock, give me a yell. I only live 10 minutes away from their Prospect store.

That rubber gap looks right to me too... they often have a gap on one side.

If you think it's worthwhile mucking around with spacer lengths, the short, long spacer (7408967) is 3.64" long; and the long, long spacer (7410958) is 3.70" long. Not much difference in it. (Yep. The shop manual says they differ in length by 0.060".) The short spacers come in 0.60", 0.66", 0.72" and 0.78" lengths.

EK shop manual says that with the vehicle weight supported by the front crossmember, there should be 0.200" compression in the front rubbers, and 0.140" compression in the rear rubbers. Compression is measured by the difference in bolt protrusion underneath, taking the difference between nuts tight and nuts just loose.

Perhaps if you removed say 2 - 3 mm from the front spacer stack, the outrigger tongue would be more centred in the rubber. Or, you could put a 1/2" spring washer between the rear spacer stack and the lower rectangular washer.

here's a pic of mine before I did any work in that area (probably not touched in 40 odd years)

and a pic with the new section welded in. I was thinking that when I got to working on the front end, I would check out changing spacer lengths like Rob has said - but in the meantime put in a slab of metal to save the rubber a bit
