The final stance is great. Everything is in proportion and the colour just tops it off. Its very hard to get a custom to look OEM. In your case new with old (you've got a good head for imagination). What are you going to do now?
You should buy the rod back and finish that!!!!!!!!!!!
Well all I can say is that the inspirational value is second to none. Great ideas, dedication and patience, male and female!
I just hope my car ends up 1/2 as good as your result, Im gunna give it a go! It is about time I got my finger out so I to can enjoy that cruising feeling again.

on the gearbox, i'd be thinking you might be better going to either an auto workshop or holden the gearbox in your car has solenoids to change gears which is controlled by the computer (certain revs/load points/temp etc)

but the fact that it comes good after you turn the car off sorta makes me think its an ecu type issue ....

i'd probably try and ring an auto workshop first and see if they have heard of it, that might know the fix, if not then maybe auto elec ... but i dunno how much they know about engine management ?

The auto problem sounds like a management issue more than anything else. Our magna has a 'safety mode' which is enacted when the auto is upset for some reason - like small creek crossings for example - and prevents it from loading up too much using strategies such as preventing it from dropping into top. Switch it off and all good, though, so something must still be niggling yours.

Vibrations? if its happening standing still then perhaps an engine mount or exhaust bracket may not be quite right. At speed it's a matter of finding out if it's related to engine, tailshaft, or wheel speed - nothing that won't be sorted out in time though... if you can build this in 14 months, then a small bit of detective work shouldn't faze you!

I did find the vibration problem, upon close inspection the metal in the rear engine mount was rubbing on the inner edge of the gearbox crossmember. That was a relatively easy fix.
I don't know if I'll be that lucky with the gear changing problem. I've had a read through the workshop manual and had a chat with the auto lecki and aparently it is a safety mode within the gearbox. I have it booked into the auto electricians on Wednesday. They are pretty confident their computer with give a good indication of the problem. Fingers crossed Also taking the tailshaft to Brisvagis on friday to get a new front yoke and balance check. Then I'm hoping for a few weeks of R&R away from the shed before Yamba.
That reminds me, I must get my entry in.

Just keep that little book in the glove-box - I'm always finding "new" things to write into it - I can't remember all issues after a trip away..............
Mine book is a bucket with more than one (the big one on top) hole in it......... but it's fun............. hope it never ends.....

and......... thanks for the before and after shots....... to me, it's a bit of a trip down memory lane........ no one (not even you) will remember the whole build.......... but your posts willsurely give you much joy of the journey you have traveled....................

Well today I would have killed to have an old grey and 3 speed under the bonnet. Another permit so BJ could have another go at the wheel alignment and to get the auto checked out. Found codes for the auto as pressure solonoid and clutch slipping. At the end of the day 2 of the 3 people I spoke to told me the gearbox was stuffed. So now it a 2hr drive in 3rd gear to get someone who knows what their looking at to pull it apart and again start sucking all the money out of my wallet.
I've tried but even beer doesn't make it better

sorry to hear that the box may be dodgey - it's not final yet - just likely....... maybe it's the source of the codes which are at fault and causing the failure - easier to change an electric brain than a transmission..... as previously mentioned, I know nothing of autos or modern engine management systems............... both my systems are mechanically coupled by the use of two sometimes very tired feet...........

I feel you will come to appreciate that this probably is not such a mountain as you see it, just another little nuisance diversion - draw on the positive - better to have it fail now than when you need reliability.................

With a project the size of what you took on and succeeded with, there will undoubtedly be other niggles which need fine tuning - I have spent twenty six years still getting the "bugs" out of mine after my mod............... it's getting better, but further improvements are always intended........

It's not fatal, just annoying - for as long as we can find coupons - we'll always find something to dispense them on.....................
