Hi Guys,
Lots of discussion on rear verse front mounted racks.
My understanding is to reduce / eliminate bump steer the A arm pivot and the rack pivots need to be parallel.
As the wheel moves up and down the steering maintains the correct geometry.

I'm no way near an expert on this subject but it has been discussed on the forum before. Harv help me out here.

Alien retro columns is the place to go to retain the stock look.
I have spoken with Rod at Rod Tech and he is so knowledgeable on this stuff.

these are all rear mounted rack measurements...

why is the P23-60 so coveted?

Hi,
Clay still a little more to come.

Replacing the switches on the dash with the gauges shown previously and adding 3 rocker switches into the ashtray, wipers – heater and driving lights.
I have not had the switches engraved yet but likely to be in modern style.
Temp set up for photo only, lots of filing and sanding to go.

Going without choke as I currently do not use the one in the wagon. Just pump the go fast pedal.

Changing the face of the red tell tail lights to a modern look. The red light will still working injunction with the gauges.

I have not found the correct cone / dish to shape these yet but will careful heat in the oven and press into shape.
I had a couple of test pieces to practice on

GPI, No room or need for cloak. Have watch and phone, ha ha.

I'm trying to find place to add cup holders without attaching anything to the trans tunnel. I'm after clean look on the interior.
Maybe a slide out from under the dash or BMW style pop out from the dash fascia using the space above the ashtray ?
The heater I just put in, blocks anything under the dash in the middle.

More time on the internet may turn up something.

One option for cup holders is to drill out the inside of the glovebox lid with a holesaw and either insert plastic liners from a modern car or weld in steel cups cut from baking moulds.

Had hoped to do similar on the wagon, but it got lost in all the other tasks.

Love your work Roger dash mods and ashtray will look great I also put my demister with and my engine management warning light into the ashtray.
V6 Conversions also use the same rack the only reason I can imagine that this rack is used must be the ease that it can be shortene, looks like the centre tube can be removed or whatever and not sure what the must do inside.

For cup holders I reckon custom a slide out twin cup holder to attach under the dash under the ashtray - slides out when you need it and stores away for a clean look.
You will find me lost somewhere!

Bump steer is caused by incorrect angles and arcs from suspension travel, when you hit a bump and the car moves up and down the wheels toe in and out depending on the amount angle and position of the suspension arms tie rod rack etc. The rack chosen may be good to get the angles as close as possible to eliminate the bump steer arc.

This photo has the suspension set up as perfect but not a reality with racks and front ends we are using.

While on the topic of bump-steer, I had an educational experience with a friend's HG Kingswood that I drove for a year or so while he was overseas. It steered like a pig under brakes . . .
But that was in the days when Holdens had negative caster (thank you, George Roberts). The negative caster made the car toe out on bump, which is exactly what you don't want. So the first cure was to go to about +1-1/2 degrees of caster. And the second cure was to tilt the steering arms downwards at the rear - there's a small amount of movement when the steering arm bolts were loosened. And it may be that a round file found its way into the bolt holes of the steering arms, but honestly, Officer, the car was like that when I got it.
Once I got the car to have neutral bump-steer, it behaved a whole lot better on the road.

Pickup he sunvisor this morning from paint strippers, Minus Paint here in Adelaide.
As I suspected under the bog was rust holes.

I got a repro one from Auto cables retro spares Eltham Vic. Doesn't use the roof brackets so no need to drill holes in your roof. Welcome to have a look at it of course.

Thanks Clay for the lead.
I may repair this one by replacing the rusted area with a strip of metal or bronze weld then file to shape.
I have the metalised filler that could work as this set like rock.

plenty to do before I need a sunvisor.
