Gee Rob, you are the most observant dude on the planet! Aparently the very late motors had that bolt (to stop oil seeping past), they also had a star shaped stamping across the timing cover, they had a bigger oil drain hole at the back main, and they had wider main bearing caps with longer bolts. The head had an extra casting for strength near the valve springs. It was a very educational morning.

Oops- sorry, yes the grooves were all worn wide, and on the worst piston, a piece of ring had made its way up the side of the piston head. No scoring on bore though. They must be mighty tough.

Great- thanks I appreciate that. He came highly recomended and previous conversations and spending time with him today have been most enlightening. I think he has a great approach to the task and I'm sure I won't be regretful in any way.

Some activity on Project 2. Grabbed a rust free (I didn't know there was such a thing) K Frame and bought it home yesterday. This will save a bit of time on the ute when I get back to her.

Yes Neil I didImage. Was thinking I'd get a workable one out of 2 and a few bits, but this came along and is nothing to do but strip and paint. Guess what, just got hold of an EK ute with no rust in body except in bottom of sills. Woo hooImage.

Drip feed Neil. Actually I haven't got it home yet so will have to wait for more. It had a 186 and a powerglide auto jammed into it (badly) so some tunnel and firewall and a few simple rust repairs to do- but nothing like my other bombs. Am going to go back to grey as the motor for Project 2 is ready to use. Will go the red motor engineered route in Project 2. Suddenly there are 3 1/2 utes in view. How does this happen?😁
