Update 04/01/2012

Well another hot day in the garage..pant pant.
I have taken around 900 pics so far so here's a cross section of them from today.
Just have to remove the doors, front and back windows, the side trim and wiring loom
and its off to the blasters in a week or two.

Using the engine hoist to hold up the front end while we get it out.
Image

Using the engine hoist as a trolley for the front suspension.
Image

Need to get this cleaned before the EPA come around.
Image

Before we removed the front
Image

Mmmm lost screwdriver, wonder how long thats been there?
Image

Took this to remember where it goes later.
Image

removing the steering wheel
Image

another pic to remember.
Image

The little pin is broken on the wheel but I have a good one
Image

Playing with the steering box so we can remove the front.
Image

Had to dig through this to find the bolts!
Image

suprisingly after removing the inner guard there was no rust on the firewall
Image

Same on the drivers side inner guard.
Image

these came out of the bottom Y all the damage is on the passangers side.
Image

The front end free at last, 3 hour job
Image

That connects to the steering box!. bugger. deal with it later.
Image

One of the rear engine mounts, check the dirt in it.
Image

as above
Image

Guess where these came from
Image

Some bolts we had to cut off.
Image

steering coming out.
Image

Unbolting the rear springs
Image

Pulling the rear out.
Image

Rears out at last.
Image

Steel for the trolley, next job

Update day three 05/01/2012

Well almost finished it today just the side panel stainless trim to remove and the interior.
Thanks to my mate Graham with all the tools I didn't have, couldn't have got this far, so fast, without them. 8)
Another 100 pics taken today and I'm sick of plastic bloody bags and tags. :|
We found some hidden rust but not as bad as we thought it would be.
Looking at Stewarts "Old Timer" thread I was of no allision of what we might find. :P
Also a lot of today was done twice one on both sides of the FB so it was a far bit of work
And the doors, well there's 4 of those.
Ok so I've had the car for 5 months and this is were were up to, enjoy the pics. :D

Stripping of door rubber.

Image

Graham removing another door.

Image

Phillips head was screwed on this one

Image

Removing one of the stainless steel dress parts

Image

Carefully unscrewing the roof gutter strip

Image

Starting to remove the front windscreen

Image

Not forgetting this screw

Image

Rust were the body joins the roof, same on both sides.

Image

Only rust on the roof section is here.

Image

Another pic.

Image

Other side clean as a whistle

Image

Doors put away, place is starting to look like a wreckers.

Image

Replacement doors "rust free" of a FB Standard

Image

Looking cleaner now.

Image

removing the screws to remove the air cover

Image

easier to remove than we thought

Image

Image

Removed and hints of overspray show the damage that was repaired.

Image

Check out the dirt, never been cleaned out.

Image

some of what we removed.

Image

What's that Graham, a boot light, cool.

Image

Boot light, we think it's an aftermarket option.

Image

FB with a bonnet latch, must be EK isn't it?

Image

Front speaker cover out.

Image

OK Wiring harness coming out.

Image

Front wiring harness removed.

Image

Door rubber that was taken out.

Image

Graham with the rear wiring harness, thank god he's a electrial enginner.

Image

What up?. Oh we missed something?. Ah, the brake a clutch assembly

Image

And there it is!

Image

What now?.. Oh the air vent.

Image

and there it is

Image

And it still opens.

Image

All bagged, tagged and put away.

Image

Glass put up and out of the way.

Image

Image

Well we were still on plan and on time until my darling wife an daughters informed me that
they have starting planing the oldest daughters wedding today..Huh?
Well honestly that little morsel will put me back a few months.
Ah but what do ya do. gotta keep the girls happy. 8)

Anyway nothings over till the fat lady sings

Sunday if nothing more happens and we get the tig welder we will have the FB on a trolley.
And ready for the blasters. :D

Great work Wayne and Graham. Glad to see a pic of you Wayne - you been hiding in the boot? :)

Any particular reason why the original doors arn't being used? Is the rust in them really bad?

Spent the day reading the manual and removing the head lining.
Wasen't that hard when you find the things that need doing.

I started removing the front headlining and what do we find
More bloody stuff to scrap off..Stewart what is this crap?.. :?

Image

Removing the second clip holding the headlining up

Image
Same of the other side, funny little red tag.

Image

Not forgeting to leave some wire for the dome lamp.

Image

Yep more wire, we are putting some stainless down there before blasting.

Image

Gentlry removing the back part of the headining, not as good as first thought. Cotton rotten.

Image

Front down starting on the back

Image

Removing another clip

Image

There's two clips at the back very close together.

Image

OK Down both front and back

Image

View from the front.

Image

The first clip to remove on the centre part. not easy.

Image

Another view of that clip

Image

You have to prise back these clip a little to get the wire bracket off.

Image

God I hate this stuff. Note is has surface rust were the sound deading was stuck.
But none were it wasen't.

Image

That's it for a while, no tig welder this weekend, maybe next... :)

I strongly recomend you paint strip the car back to metal before you get in blasted. The last couple of cars Ive worked on have had the roofs buckled around the inner roof cross rails. When they blast it pushes on either side of this rail and dents the roof.
Either that or cut the rail out , get it blasted and then reweld iot back in.
At least if the main panels are striped they will not need to put too much pressure to clean the panels. Good luck with the resto.

My guess is for determining which ones go where. Whatever you do don't pull them out and if you're replacing the headlining swap them one at a time to ensure they go back in the right spot.

Each of those bars are a particular length and only fit in their respective spots.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.
