Bumperettes are getting the treatment tonight. Spent a bit of time gently straightening the RH one in the vice, with chunks of wood, then on the car with the jack. Loosened the bolts on the irons also to get alignment a bit better.

The Bunnings door stops and bumper bolts donated by Harv worked out a treat. Also touched up the body behind the bumpers in Deep Aqua, painted the back of the bumpers with Metal Shield and polished the chrome. Came up great.

Pretty amazing really. I fitted up the LH one tonight and it’s even better.

Both bumperettes have big scars where the tailgate has been hitting, as no bump stops we’re re-fitted after the rear end accident it was obviously in at some point.
But the rest of the chrome... is stunning. It’s coming up to 60 years old! I understand that this original chroming process is now banned, for good reason, but Jesus the quality is second to none.

Cheers, Joe

here’s 1000 words relating to tonight’s efforts:

Image

Spare wheel door is fine on the outer skin, just very cruddy within. But I got to it in time.

I’m creating a latch striker situation so it pulls shut properly, will paint and then glue in the new seal over the weekend.

Have fun with your arts and crafts weekend, Joe :smile2: Looks like someone's already tried some pottery clay in there before?

Cheers,

John

Sounds very reasonable!
However mine is the far superior composite metal/plastic version, so I think I’ll stick with that ;)

haha yeah. What was that stuff we played with in primary school? Sculpy?

There are many bog crimes around this car, the whole rear quarter for example... I’m considering getting one of those long sanding blocks just level the wobbles our and hitting it with fresh paint.

Cheers, Joe
