Update: I’ve cut out the old mess and welded in a new solid bit of steel on the RH inner sill. Also a made a better section where spring extension joins the sill and welded that up nicely. Seam sealed and painted the lot.
Seeing as the fuel & brake line were already curved away from the sill, I decided to use a couple of P clips and secure them at the bottom of the adjacent seat bolts poking through. Spent some time shaping the lines to make sure nothing is rubbing anywhere. I had a think about whether or not this was a good idea in the event of a big accident, were the seat bolts to shear and tear the fuel line with it. Kinda figured The non collapsible column would take care of me in a hit that big, and hey, I’d always planned to be cremated. So you know, I’m fine with it
See what the rego guy says I guess.
Also reamed out a rust hole inside the RH rear wheel arch then cleaned out the rust and junk from the sill with my old faithful twisted wire, magnet and vacuum combo then painted rust converter in there as best I could. Later absolutely drowned the whole sill with fish oil then welded in a patch using a bit of the other number plate from Grandad’s old Magna.
Today, I also sanded back the outer sill panel, wheel arch lip and lower rear quarter, masked it up and hit it with some Deep Aqua aerosol paint. Still rough as guts, but looks ten times better now.
Bumperettes are coming off next for a tidy up and to install the correct bolts (thanks Harv!) and rubber bump stops for the tailgate.
Cheers,
Joe
