I'd like to know too! haha

My issue is not whether they are different from the sedan, it's more to do with the fact that Rare Spares don't list the longer version of these bolts. I have a packet of the short ones, but they don't reach through the rubber insulator bush between bumperette and body.
I'm sure there's a longer version on their website somewhere, for another model, but was curious to know if anyone else here knew which model... or where else I could try. The days of wandering up to see George the Wrecker in Thornleigh and picking these out of his stash are long gone, sadly

The ute ones for the bumperettes are longer. From memory, sedan are 1.5" and ute are 2". I couldn't get a "pack" from Rares, so ended up mixing and matching. I think the bumperette bolts were from a &*#@ pack.

I've got two 1.5" bolts (one rough, one pretty good) and one 2" (new) here. Can throw them in the mail if it helps.

Cheers,
Harv
Thanks Harv, I'll have a dig online for those 2" ones. For what it's worth, I need to head up to the Great North West on other business in the coming week or so, I'll PM ya for that long overdue visit perhaps.

Update: I’ve cut out the old mess and welded in a new solid bit of steel on the RH inner sill. Also a made a better section where spring extension joins the sill and welded that up nicely. Seam sealed and painted the lot.

Image

Seeing as the fuel & brake line were already curved away from the sill, I decided to use a couple of P clips and secure them at the bottom of the adjacent seat bolts poking through. Spent some time shaping the lines to make sure nothing is rubbing anywhere. I had a think about whether or not this was a good idea in the event of a big accident, were the seat bolts to shear and tear the fuel line with it. Kinda figured The non collapsible column would take care of me in a hit that big, and hey, I’d always planned to be cremated. So you know, I’m fine with it ;)
See what the rego guy says I guess.

Image

Also reamed out a rust hole inside the RH rear wheel arch then cleaned out the rust and junk from the sill with my old faithful twisted wire, magnet and vacuum combo then painted rust converter in there as best I could. Later absolutely drowned the whole sill with fish oil then welded in a patch using a bit of the other number plate from Grandad’s old Magna.

Today, I also sanded back the outer sill panel, wheel arch lip and lower rear quarter, masked it up and hit it with some Deep Aqua aerosol paint. Still rough as guts, but looks ten times better now.

Bumperettes are coming off next for a tidy up and to install the correct bolts (thanks Harv!) and rubber bump stops for the tailgate.

Cheers,
Joe

bit more crossed off the to-do list tonight.

Replaced 1x rubber gear selector shaft seal and made up a new cork seal for the other one. Also re-checked the gearbox oil with the car level and it’s spot on.

Some may remember that I forgot to pack the rear wheel bearing with grease before assembling the rear axle... being as it is such bastard to R&R half shafts on my model, I’ve been putting it off. Finally did the driver’s side this arvo, will do the passenger side once I scoot the car over in the shed this week.

And just now, I’ve glued the inner door seal in on the driver’s side, and massaged/screwed the scuff plate into place too. The outer seal is on too, but I’m gonna slam the door shut and let it settle for a day before gluing it into position.

Ticking boxes, feeling good.
Joe

Nimbus! Hahahahaha... The almighty Mirage I think you mean. Couldn’t love a buzz-box more than I love that little thing.

Your Pug story reminds me. When I swapped the 186S for the 308 in my HT Monaro, I hung a couple of small SAAB 900 mufflers with 90° bends in them off the end of the block-hugger headers, wired up somewhere under there, so I could run-in the motor and shake it all down. Exhaust exited behind the front wheels on each side and sounded awful, but did the job :)

Truly I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for the mirage and nimbus, galant and sigma. Paj and triton nooo. Lad at work has a last gen Evo which we refer to as the lancer. Never been so scared driving in the CBD. Except maybe when I put my EK sideways in the middle of King William St. before I changed the rear brakes to match the HR disc front.

Started cleaning up this air cleaner with the intention of painting it black, but after uncovering the original decal under the crud, thought I’d see what it looks like with a coat of clear.

Image

Kinda cool in its own right, but if it looks silly on top of the freshly painted Grey, I might dig out another one form my stash (I seem to have accrued a few...) and paint that black instead.

It will match the firewall. Didn’t you clear coat that Joe? Get some miles on it and the motor will soon blend in.

Yup, this is my current thinking! Once I get all the crap of my work bench - I mean bonnet - we’ll see if it looks any good :)
