Was a cool day today got some gas.
Next onto the front end, i looked for hours on and off for my ball joints..... called the father inlaw if he had seen them in my shed. He said try the freezer ay ?
Well I'll be. Forgot all about that but found them in there. ImageImageImage

Got around to fitting my rebuilt 3.36 whilst draining the diff oil in the drum and removing the uni clamps couldnt believe the luck but the hoop popped out and sank to the bottom.
Drives nicer that the 3.08 ratio.
Had to head down the fasteners shop and get a allen key bolt for the two bottom fixings of the center.

I found a oil leak out of the passengers side there seems a inner seal and two o ring seals on the bearing. None seem damaged or old and crusty any ideas.ImageImageImage

How does the bearing surface on the axle look? Speedi sleeves are cheap and easy to fit
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I just swapped out 3.36 for 3.08 before doing a big trip. I'm loving the 3.08. Second gear around the streets makes a noise, quiet on the highway.

I put a 3:08 in my ute a couple of times for the trip home from the nats, wasn't too bad with the 13" wheels but it certainly didn't like the hills when I put the 14" rims on it :wtf: different story with one of those fancy red motors I guess ...

The 3.08 was ok for the flat Perth freeways but once you hit a slight incline it was much to tall and half throttle or full it didnt have the balls get up out into peak torque or power range and spent most of its time lugging. The timatic and 14s dont help the long gearing either.
Plus the cam is way to big for a single carbie very mild 161 motor. Power range starts around 3000rpm which the motor never sees. My new motor has a nice crow 35666 cam for it and as the other post ive ordered the holley sniper efi two barrel which should all go together and be a nice combo once together and in.

Im looking for some help from the team and trying to sort out a bit of planning for when the holley sniper and bits rock up , i have ordered the holley sniper retro fit fuel pump returnless as part if the kit a simple idea and installation a wholesaw to the tank obviously a full clean after then set the pickup height and the clamps turn out and lock to the tank when tightend down.
It says they can fit in tanks 7" - 12" deep but it seems the fb tanks are only 6" deep pushing it.Also having the returnless type means it has a pressure reg just after the pump in the black pvc line to the outlet which limits my chance of shortening the pump to black outlet pvc line further again.Ill have to wait until it arrives to see if i can cut it down short enough to sit off the bottom of the tank.
Or i might have to get another fb ek fuel tank and have them fabricated together to make a deeper tank and add a few more litres maybe another 2" deeper.

The retro fit pump has a 'vent' outlet on it as well for the tank to breath where on a fb could i run this line , i dont want it in the boot as it will let off fumes i guess.
Is the fb tanks only breather though the chrome non key lock cap.

So you could make a small piece to extend the tank say 100mm x 100mm square 2 inch deep if required and weld that in under the pick up only, do it with 45 degree bends to blend it back into the tank or you could make a cylinder in the boot for the pick up to attach to and weld that on top of the hole where the old sender was.
With the breather run the pipe to the rear guard then go up to the top of the guard and back down again and exit through the inner, this lets the fumes out but not the fluid.
