some place just ripped me off for a new one, and some brake fluid, but it still wont stop

off to Ozzy Park Service Centre tomorrow to hopefully get fixed, aaaand have a handbrake put on

If they "ripped you off" why not tell them and give them a chance to fix there mistake .

It's good to see you are working at fixing the car, look i have a been working at my car for 4 years and it's still no where near seeing the road, i save up buy the parts i want to put in the car and cut it up to make it fit, i'm very lucky to have a father with certain skills and although he has never completely rebuilt a car or done it in 20 years but him and his mates were 'traditional hot rodders' they had early holdens and falcons and dattos and no money and would do some crazy shit cause its what they wanted... they raced speedway with greys without money everything on 70's aprentice wages would go on the car, beers and smokes! now things are different for them but they still remember those glory days as some of the best time of there life...and im learning lots about it all and getting stuck in with everything we do in all aspects...the area im most proud off is the fuel tank frame...as that was all my work...

take the advice buy something to drive around while you work on the car, i started driving the old mans car when i could get it (just an old hilux), then bought my HG for a good price, the back to the old mans car, now to my HQ ute, i spend little to no money on these cars as it all goes to the FB...if only i wasnt lazy and got of my arse and spent more time in the shed...i'd probably be driving it by now!

write a list of needs and wants and spend time crossing them off it's the only way you'll see improvements

hey j, the original brake set up is single circuit, meaning if 1 hose is blown out/cut or wears out(from rubbing) the hole system fails, if you want to spend a bit of money on safety put a dual circuit master cylinder on it, that means a cuircuit for front brakes and a curcuit for rear brakes.
i dont think you would NEED to use the booster, (some one here might know)

Cmon Jay.. i agree with all the other guys.. DON'T sell the EK.

I've nearly sold my HJ sedan once or twice, got offered 9g for it one night and i thought about it, but i've still got it now about a year later.

Dw, i've taken a ride home in a tow truck a few times myself, or been stranded on the road more times than i can remember.. including one quick stop on the side of the highway.

Old cars are just that, old. They have their problems, and their so easy to fix so you just fix it and keep going. I'm constantly fixing problems on my HJ, almost every few weeks i'm fixing SOMETHING.

I know your into the lowrider, custom, Los Boulevardo's look.. so why don't you just find a flat colour you like, start sanding the car down a little on a friday night and primer and paint it over the weekend with a couple mates? That'll solve that problem..

well that would have been a cheap fix young J ..

all i can say is like the rest keep it .. if u need a daily driver keep ears out for someone trading a car in as there worth stuff all ..
a 10 year old small car wholesales for less that 2 k ..

if rego is a problem then put the EK on club plates .. 100 smakers a year ..

i too used to fix things on a shoestring budget but now i have 2 kids, i see things differently, if it not going the way it should be, its not going on the road, its not worth a being stuck, stranded, in an accident, hurting someone or worse....

don't get a sh@tbox to drive around, you're just buying another bucket of bolts of trouble and your money will go into keeping 2 old cars going. get a pushbike, use the bus, get a job, save the money to a point where you can do things the way they should be done. even if its just replacing a snapped bolt, do it properly.

whatever u do, make it as good as new or better, but don't make bandaid repairs to get u through to the next week.

I had the same problem like others as you are having........ I have owned my red Ek since 17/18 years old. It takes a shit load of time and money to get a car where you want it.

Best advice I can offer and how I got my red car where it is today ... set a goal on what you want your car to eventually be. Slowly build up your parts ...... and eventually you will have the car the way you want it

If your thinking along the lines of injected V6 or V8 ... could be worth while getting a bombadore ( VN - VR ) which down the track could be used as a donor car for the drive-line etc. If your after an old school Aussie V8 maybe get a cheap Kingswood.

You need to work out thou what you want the EK to become.

Get a hyundai to get around in and keep the EK, in the long run you will be happier for it.
Stay with it, you come across as a guy who was passionate about doing the car up, sure you have things to learn, hell the day you stop learning is the day you die.

Jay, get someone you TRUST, to look at your car.
Get it stopping and steering first, then a safety check on suspension, wheels, seat belts, etc etc. Make sure it's going and stopping.

Cars cost money and can take a lot of time. Money becomes less of an issue when you learn to do things yourself, but brakes and steering are really important.

Keep going, have a break, get someone you trust to check the car over before it has it's next big issue.

Your getting stories to tell in years to come, that's priceless.

I have had a few dilemma's with the car, the brakes were looked at and yeh caliper bolts were replaced. Had new handbrake all made up which means im going to be working at dads shop for free just a little while longer

I replaced a fuel line a few weeks ago with a rubber hose, had a bloke stop on the side of the road and he was fixing rust in his friend's EK. I asked him how much to do mine he said $35 and hour! I got his business card


After the last fb/ek cruise the hose i put on weakened in traffic, bent and cut off my fuel supply, was quite fun sitting on the side of the road in the middle of a bloody hot day!



but I did have some entertainment


I made up some pretty gauges for it a while ago, and installed some green neon's under the dash.


Made a mdf parcel shelf for my speakers to sit in



Other than that ive just been driving around the coastal area with some friends


aaaaaaaaaand some other things which I wont get into, thank god for camper seats
