yes the box is an FB so a bit annoying it was so old - I cant complain as I got it for nicks.

The problem I now have is if the system does work (and I believe it will) I need get the box refurbed so the collar they have welded onto the bottom shaft section has to be cut off so the bearing races can be replaced which Roger believes are pretty nackered plus the bearing surface on shaft needs machining and a sleeve put on which he is happy to do - just have to figure out the collar issue.

Roger raised the concern of compliance but in checking the vic roads mods sheet I cant find anything directly relating to steering columns or power steering addition or mods that needs certification - it's exactly the same dimensions as stock but has a join in middle of the shaft - working that through with EZPS who say they went through NSW engineers and they said nothing required. If anything I will be improving steering effectiveness with fallback that normal manual steering is returned if the unit fails and I intend to get the sub frame reinforced to handle any possible increase in torque (invisible to the naked eye).

it wont be an issue with the steering box plate.

look at most auto columns for reference, the cracking they sustain is due to the steering box to subframe bolts being so far away from the torque being applied and the steering column literally tries to twist itself off.

when you put the plate on, the steering column is captive supported from the top and bottom.

just swap your freebie for one from rares:

Mr FJwally,

VSB14 modification rules do quote that non factory power steering will require certification.

Did it end up the height you were chasing Rob?

Painted ones look right but I recall ute van versions are different to sedan. Then there is the wagon which has five leaves.

Yes its about an inch and a half lower even though pics dont show it as obviously - hopefully the ride is a touch softer too - the old ones were rusty and insulators gone between leaves - the new ones are not as refined on the ends of the leaves either

Inch and a half looks about right.
Don’t mean to be critical but think it would look even better with taller rubber, hard to get as it is I know.
Cheers,
Clay

They are 185/80 now i think - what else would work on 4.5 inch 13’s?
