Hi Brodie

Wheels are standard Commodore "Pursuits" - aka steelies. 15 x 7 on the back & 15 x 6 up front. We had the VN diff narrowed by 140mm (70 mm per side) but now that it's back in the car I think I'd have been happier with 120mm. There's not a lot of clearance between inner tyre & frame, although it doesn't appear to rub. Even so I'll either look at having the wheel centres moved in 10 mm or put some spacers in after RWC.

No problems though with any of the brake hardware or hoses hitting the rails - they're all tucked up nicely inside the rims.

Cheers, Steve

hi guys.. nice work :P

couple of questions for you. how much was freight from the states ( which state did you buy from?). how much to do diff mods? ive been quoted around 2.5K for same diff with 31 spline axles and lsd. I'm planing for a 350 around 420hp so i've been told i'd need 31's.
I'm trying to get a budget for my v8 combo.

last one...what rack is that? and does it make a difference mounting over the outrigger as i've only ever seen them running through it??

Thanks Rick.

Hi Rick

We bought all the gear online from Summit Racing in Ohio. Freight was $400 for a 7 day priority delivery with UPS (would've been $350 for a 21 day delivery, but I was impatient). Because my order was over $2000 I did get hit for GST when the goods landed in Australia though, so factor that in if you have to.

The price you've been quoted for your diff sounds about right to me, based on what ours cost. We stuck with the 28 spline axles on our mechanics advice that provided we don't go silly with the right foot (not much point in a 50 year old car anyway) then the 28's would handle the job just fine.

Steering rack is LH Torana, fitted by Rods Racks in Beaudesert ,Qld. To be honest I've got no idea whether it matters if the rack goes over, under or through the outrigger, but Rod has done plenty of these so I trust he knows what he's doing - plus it's engineer approved.

Cheers & good luck with your project.

hey guys hows thing traveling? not flooded in i hope :|

couple of questions for you, Is you diff centre, in the centre or off to one side. did you get new axles or billet. i was told when cutting down my vn diff they have to off centre it with axles being different lengths. Unless i get billets made. then i can have the diff centre central. hope that makes sense?
How much power are you guys going to make??

Hi Rocket

The diff pinion is dead centre in the trans tunnel but the VN diff assembly is such that the diff housing itself sits slightly to the left (when viewed from behind). The axles (ours are billet) will always be different lengths because that's the way these diffs are designed, with one (the passenger side) shorter than the other. We reckon we'll get around 380 horses (at the wheels) from our engine - with carby, mild cam, exhaust etc. I've got a CV8 Monaro with similar mods (although injected) that's dyno'd at 380 horses & 902 Nm of torque.

Hi steve. another question for you. do you think 14" hq steel rims would fit on the rear end, those commodore calipers look close to the rims! I'm running the same rear end but i'm looking for a cheaper way out... for steel rims that fit caps and trims.
thanks Rick

Hi Rick. Not too sure about 14" rims - I'm thinking maybe not, but I'll have a look tomorrow & give you a more informed view. In between time, here's a few more photo's of where we're up to. Cheers, Steve

and back on her wheels ( at long last);

Next will be paint the engine bay (if it ever stops raining up here!) & slip the donk back in - hopefully to stay.

Was just looking through your thread when it dawned on me that you look like someone I knew from rainforestation .
I worked there a few years ago .
But I dont think so ,just very familiar looking.
