Id imagine the plan is to have the bonnet override the plennum and come back up towards the glass like a lot of later model stuff.
Thats my guess.
Very interesting project to say the least and Im glad its being posted on the site mildFB .
Can you make the A frames meet the firewall level with each other though .
They are so visable.

I'm also interested to see why the A frames aren't level..perhaps it may have something to do with the steering column?? At any rate..the thing'll go like the Clappers!!Harko wrote:

Plus it's an interesting idea of channeling the body/roof..are you going to bring the dashboard up from the plenum once the windscreen is sorted Mild FB?? You've got me real interested in this build!! A real wait 'n' see

Scotty.

The roof chop is different in that the windscreen is the same size, just sunk into the firewall. As a consequence the driver will see 3.5 inches of the front guards and bonnet.
The bonnet rear end will sit on a raised wall incorporating an "air-grabber" intake. Utilizing the low air pressure at the base of the windscreen, for the carbie. We will mould some sort of sealed airway, so when the bonnet is shut, the air will be directed to the air filter.
It is also true, the driver will see 3.5 inches if guard. We may colour the windscreen (like a modern car) to obscure it a bit. Our first idea was to raise the dash to the original height, but when you sit in the driving position, the 3.5 inch lowered dash seems OK. There is less room to mount anything however, as per the Magna AC unit just squeezes in.
Re the different A frames. It is true they are different. Either side of the car (chrysler) is different, starting with the motor offset to the drivers side. This is a standard thing with this model. It was built in Australia, but the design was US. for left hand drive. (fat yanks) This means that the divers side of the engine bay is crowded. We intend to run the exhaust into the guard and put collectors in there to make more room on that side. The car sits straight on the rack and all the panels fit, and that’s the important thing.
I am learning a lot as we go and am enjoying the technical challenges. Thanks for the interest. I will keep this updated as we go, progress is slow, as we manage only one weekend a month.
Regards, Graham

I'd been trying to work out how it was all going to go together due to the lowered plenum. Seems MildFb has thought out most of it, how it actually looks we can only wait and see. But definitely some serious chopping going on.Smooth customs wrote:I am waiting to see that as well.ratbox wrote:think trev means the plenum area, will be interesting to see how they deal with that

Having chopped a few cars over the years and performed some sunken screen versions, this approach and its end result caught my attention.Devilrod wrote:I'd been trying to work out how it was all going to go together due to the lowered plenum. The easiest aproach is to leave the dash and all other factory sections in their original position.
Remove the vent section in front of and below the screen, and lower the leading edge of the screen opening all the way around to the door pillars and sink them the desired amount.
A section of panel steel is then cut and shaped to fill the gap from the front of the dash down to the new position of the screens lowere edge.
Usually the lower section of the screen is blacked out before being fitted either with a modified rubber and mouldings or by glueing the screen as used in modern cars. There is a little work in getting the wipers fitted up in what looks like an original form. Once the guards and vent section is refitted in their original positions everything look almost stock.

Just a quick update, we can't let "Minifb" have all the limelight
March 2010: View of the dash layout.. Incorporating Magna heater and A/C controls and a modern standard size stereo. No smoking...no ash tray. No gloves...no glovebox. The dash will be smoothed over for a clean finish.
Chrysler floor auto changer. Linkages all set and working OK.

June 2010: Check out the new front on profile....cool.
It's time to design and make the "airgrabber" induction system. Air from the back of the bonnet will be funneled to the carbie. There is plenty of room, with a whoping 200mm between the top of the carbie and the bottom on the bonnet. We will have to raise the air filter to fit in the tray, an increase in horsepower will be a nice biproduct.

Air Grabber" intake grill will sit at the rear of the bonnet, and stay in place as the bonnet lifts, the top of the airgrabber will lift with the bonnet

Cheers for now..

Very Interesting work going on there, I will be very interested in the outcome.
There will be no shortage of power in that dept at least. 360's are a great engine.

Re: MildFB, customised FB wagon
thanks oldnek. With the Chrysler insertion we get plenty of looks but not many comments, you can almost hear the cricket's after my post. But I will keep you posted as we go. We are learning alot, and I hope others can get some ideas as well. It's all good fun.

If in doubt..chop it.

I think the Chrysler motor is a great addition, but IMHO the glovebox should have stayed and you put the HU and heater controls in there.MildFB wrote:With the Chrysler insertion we get plenty of looks but not many comments, you can almost hear the cricket's after my post.
