Strog. Just like rental cars in the US are not aloud over the boarder. So too for NSW FB's and EK's. One you cross the boarder, you are in violation.

This will this be your first misdemeanor!

Lucky you didn't take it down to Mexico. That would have been a Felony Hey Trev :D

BTW, happy to give you your money back

Decision has been made to rebuild the engine now timing gear has failed.
No major issue with engine, other than its almost 50years old.. :D
It does sludge in the cooling system, has a few leaks and is a little fumey.

Nothing crazy is planned, good acid clean and a freshen up with new bearings, seals, etc. May do a little balancing, lightening the flywheel, maybe even a mild "street" spec cam and a bit of head work to ensure unleaded doesnt pose a problem and give it a little extra preformance.

While its off the street I'm going to do a little work to the suspension and driveline as well.. (Just replacing worn bits mostly.)

I need it ready for the next nats, looks like a few QLDers are heading down, so I'd better pull finger.! :D :D

Engine out..

You mean lowering it right? When the springs wear out they have a tendency to extend, and the car gets higher

Engine out tomorrow all going well, pictures to follow. 8)

Well I guess it's at that milage. I would just ring end bearing it Strogger, I would leave the original paint (What's left of it :) ) on the motor. Or .... sell it back to me ;)

Engine appears to be in respectable condition inside. (aside from normal wear.)

a freshen up, new bearings, rings and bit of a hone and robert is your mothers brother. She'll be good for another 49 years or 70,000Miles.

   :D

Check this out..
Is almost like mud, not flaky like you'd expect rust to be.

This is what i could reach with my index finger out of the rear most welch plug hole..

Seems more than a normal degradation of cast iron and metal could produce?? Anyway another reason for a full flush and chemical clean.

I had my grey block cleaned and all that and still managed to get more crap out by digging around with long screwdrivers down all the welch plug and water holes  , good move to pull the motor out and do it properly, Trev 8) .

Yep, thats the sort of accumulated crap that develops over years of use and applications of various radiator stop leak products etc etc etc and all builds up to create engine hotspots and radiator blockages.

Knock out all the welch plugs, put the engine block on its bum and use a good high pressure washer preferably with added detergent if you have access to one of these washers.Do the head the same way as well.

You'll be amazed at the amount of shit the pressure washer will get out.

I had near half a ice cream container of crap come out of the head and block when I pressure washed my 149 red in my FB.

If you are rebuilding the engine I'd still pressure wash it after the hot tank process and machining process is done as hot tanking alone doesn't remove all this crap and engine machinists often don't clean out the oil passages properly after machining leaving behind amounts of machining swarf etc.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

That's true, Terry. I once had a 351 rebuilt some years back. The block was supposedly chemically cleaned.

After I got it back, I was having some overheating issues. When I got the radiator and engine pressure flushed, they found 2 handfuls of metal shavings in the system.
