Well maybe the guards at least Rob. But then I’ve been wondering how else I’m going to get all the crap out of the subframe legs. Thinking how I can split the sub frame from body without removing the engine and trans. Just disconnect pitman arm, gear shift, rear brake pipe, hand brake cable, throttle lever and some wiring. Might have to go for a sneaky spin around the block first.

Bought a WW Stromberg and 186s manifold just because the price was good. I did sell some sedan stuff which more than paid for it. Just doors and glass and a Jap push button radio.

Wouldn’t be the first carb I have converted to manual choke but anyway it will go on the shelf for now, along with the Holley 390, Varajet, red and grey strommies.

I jumped on it when it came up Glen. Don’t see them second hand often. Is that what your mate has in his FB wagon? I have a red manifold but looking for a blue one to go in the van.

Thanks Ric
Actually I haven’t much idea what I’m doing and tend to go at things in a roundabout fashion, breaking things before I fix them. It’s fun though, and this forum has helped rekindle a passion that goes back over 30 years.
Cheers

Clay, I’m a closet fan of the old WW2 Strom. Spent considerable time and effort setting up a couple I ran on my original 186S HT Monaro some twenty years ago. On different incarnations of that 186, it did some fine work... auto choke was an easily adjusted and very reliable thing, especially as I got my hands on a new bi-metallic strip coil at the time.

Best thing I ever did though was to drop the spare one onto my brother’s HR Holden. Running a ‘stock’ Gem engine 202, with Supra 5 speed & 3.08 diff, that car had the bonnet-up attitude of a gasser under acceleration and combined with the factory 186S ‘headers’ and a basic 1 3/4” exhaust, it wailed from idle to valve bounce (which admittedly was probably only at about 5000rpm). Great sleeper, induction sound was fun too.

Anyway, I reckon you’ll have some fun with that!

Yeah Mick’s wagon has got a 390 on it and works real good and He just happens to have a 4 barrel manifold for a blue motor and a set of extractors as well that he isn’t usingImage

I had a Holley 280? Off a Pontiac I think, on 186s manifold on my 186 prior to the blue 202. Always wanted the WW. They were plentiful as came stock on 253 V8 only go be swapped out for 4 barrel. All I need now is the cast headers as I’m not a huge fan of tubular headers. I don’t know the 186s inlet will fit the stock exhaust manifold so may have to overcome my bias and run ‘stractors.

Clay,

Manifold mix'n'match -

EH-HD cast iron inlet + cast headers may not be OK. The inlet's hot-box may foul on the headers.
HR-on aluminium inlet + cast headers is no-go. The water jacket fouls on the headers.
X2 and 186S inlet + headers is OK (obviously).
HR-on aluminium inlet + cast iron exhaust is OK (obviously).
X2 or 186S inlet + HR-on cast iron exhaust is OK, I think.

Rob
