Can't recall ever starting a car cold with SU's without using choke Blacky,

A lot of people use a clothes peg to hold the jets down for starting I am told.

I ran 1 3/4 inch Su's on my big block 186 for years without a choke, must admitt it did take a few minutes to warm up !!

i know quite a few people that run them not one person has chokes on theirs

We’ll soon you will know one, once I’ve done mutilating the firewall. I just wish mini would hurry up and send me that ruined a classic sticker he promised me.

Never ends this stuff does it ?

Back in the day of Su's I ran an offset filter which just cleared the firewall, Eventually I changed to a long runner mainfold and then like you the chopping began.

Got sidetracked re-routing the heater pipes.Several trips to B L Shipway for hydraulic fittings later, I have 1/2" copper running under the inlet manifold. Tapped the alloy thermostat housing for 1/4" BSPT. The grey motor tap I had working so nicely on the Echuca trip was in the way of the linkage rod, as were the heater hoses passing though the firewall. I will replace the tap with a compact ball valve under the dash.

Them ARP bolts are spendy, but damn good quality.

Growing up, every magazine car seemed to have "ARP bolts". I'd never used them, but figured I would for the FED. The grey is being screwed together with them (black oxide for inside bolts, stainless 12-pointers for outside), with stainless 12-pointers being used on the chassis. The kids tease me when "the little blue and yellow packets" arrive in the post.

The chassis builder was a little leery of using them when he saw them on the diff mounts. Suggested I should swap them out for good Grade 8 bolts. Did my homework, and managed to convince him that they are better than Grade 8.
