Getting there now with the head on, cam, hydraulic lifters, and new pushrods fitted. Oil pump pick up shortened to allow for the longer gears and now lower pick up height.

What sort of compression ratio are you going to end up with mate ?

  You doing anything fancy with the main caps ? They look to be stock with stock bolts in your photos - not planning on revving the pizzle out of this so no need ?

. . . but it's what's in the background that's caught my eye, with which I spy -

- a Repco head
- a right-angle magneto drive
- steel main bearing caps
- a most clever full-flow oil filter conversion using the fuel pump flange for mounting and the existing hole in the crankcase to get the oil in and out
- two SUs canted over at a ridiculous angle for road use, suggesting
- marine application?

No, it's a stock bottom end apart from the vibration damper. It's all in moderation mate. I'm getting old haha.

Rob your almost right on all accounts. The right angle drive was originally a twin distributor drive possibly for a Waggott head as I believe the later versions may have been twin spark plug. I'm running a single distributor. The existing hole in the block will be only used to get the oil into the block. There is another one I put in the block just forward of that for the exit point for oil from the pump. I'm still working out what I will do with my dry sump set up. The SU's are set up at 12 degrees which is the shaft angle in the boat.

I am most impressed, by the ingenuity of the engineering solutions and the style and beauty of the boat . . .

Thanks Rob. BTW, did you ever finalise the rubbers for overhauling the standard vibration dampers?

Plumbing adjustment done for the oil pump spacer. Also modified the side plate breather port as I'm going PCV.

Craig,

Only just noticed your post about vibration damper rubbers.

Yes. The pair that I sent you are examples of the ones I use in reconditioning harmonic balancers. I reverse-engineered the rivets and had a batch made, and then had a peening fixture made up. It places the whole assembly under compression, then peens the rivets over in a press.

Thanks for replying Rob.
I'll keep you in mind as I have a couple of standard rebuilds coming up. I'm not sure if the guy in SA is still doing them either.
Sorry for the very late question. I'm in serious catch up mode after being off this forum for so long.
Cheers.
