Rebuilding of Old Timer (EK wagon)

Got the front subframe on this arvo with Luis help.

Question...or tips needed for a young player...

My plan was whilst the car is on the car stands...assemble the front cross member with suspension and to the point where I can bolt the wheels on and then jack it up to the front end and bolt up. Should the guards be bolted on when this is done to support the front end?

Then do the rear end. Once both front and rear wheels are back on get the car back on the ground. OR

one end first and lower that to the ground and then do the other and and then lower that end to the ground.

Just trying to work out the best step by step getting it rolling again. Any thoughts appreciated...

If all the bolts are in the subframe this is no problems at all

Wow, nice progress.
Amazing to see the underside looking as good as new, will be a shame to get it dirty when you drive it.

ps. If you had of put the car back in upside down you could have eaten off the underside instead of the dirty carport.

Now the fun stuff begins...putting Old Timer back together...

After the past 3 or so years inbetween rust repairs and grinding back welds there's been lots of other work going on like de-rusting and painting all the small bits n pieces, collecting and purchasing parts and refurbishing and rebuilding things etc. Doing all that hopefully will now save me a bit of time and unpacking all this stuff has been a lot of fun.

I started putting the rear end together first as it seemed a more straight forward job.











Putting the front pins of the rear leaf springs wasn't as easy as expected but I got there in the end....http://www.fbekholden.com/forum/viewtop ... 24&t=14894

The centre is a 355.

All new bearings and seals etc

Resleeved cylinders, new cups and painted adjusters...



I used some rod to line up the backing plates



My son Thomas rolled the diff into place with the trolley jack and positioned it and I bolted it up. Teamwork!

yor front pins dilema helped me out the other day was putting rear end in a mates car and had the oversize pin issue, so we knew what to do

Front end was next...I've been collecting NOS pins etc for a while...





Inner upper, outer lowers, upper outers, outer inner lower upper...confusing...

I learnt a leason here...don't fill threads with paint...it makes it very hard to screw pins in etc...





Then Thomas and I placed the crossmember under the front end and bolted it up...
