J's EK doin some foolay siek skidz bro (vid)
Was it the fb andrew? cos thats yellow and has white tips on the wings
It saddens me to announce this, I was looking forward to running a Nostalgic grey motor with twin carbs, extractors and a hot dog.... all pretty and originalish.
Due to circumstances that have arisen with the reconditioning of the engine block, I dont have approximately 3g's to recondition and put the grey back in.
So unfortunately I have to spend less money and end up with a better engine and more horse power
Classic Olden are selling me a pretty lil red 161 motor for $350, I have sourced an EH sump (just need the bottoms or somethin :S) and using the trimatic from the 202.
I did speak to flames and he said to put the 202 in, cos if they dont ping me on the motor they will on the rust. I can run the 161 and the standard front legally and un-engineered. I rekon il go down that track as it will save money, and the engine is complete with extractors and everythin!
So, is there anybody here who has done this swap before? I think its as simple as welding engine mounts to the front end and making a gearbox crossmember... Looking for someone who can help me do it. If not I take it to a bloke, he does it for $1000 ish and i learn nothing

J i've down the Red into an FB with the HR Front End, you might as well go the whole hog it will save you in the long run, i could also hook you up with a 202 if needed.... i would love to help you but currently not in a position to do so but can offer some advice along the way if needed...
don't you have a HR Front End?
also PM Ben (with the turquoise/white wagon) he's got a 161 in his not sure about the front end though but he can probably offer advice
i think you have to get the tranny crossmember signed off anyway, most engineers will sign off of the HR front end straight away anyhow.... from what i hear...
i would reccommend putting in the HR Front end, moving the mounts as you have to do, slotting in the 202 (186 would be better, thats my opinion) and i can supply you the plans to build a chassis Kit, someone will be able to knock up the rails for you, put in the added rails which they will also sign off easily as your not required to have it, the it gives you added for the future if you want more power, say something in a V shape, build the tranny mount to bolt to the rails, through in the LJ tailshaft and Bob's you uncle... and go the Lokar shifter when you have the coin, i haven't even used mine yet and i love it!
any q's shoot!
Cheers

thanks for all the info nomad but I really dont wanna get that complicated with the chassis kit etc. I just want it on the road asap, dnt think il ever go commy engine or chev (although id like to).
Im running disc brakes so the ride will be good, I know of an fc ute with standard front end and 186 and that handles fine. Andrew says the ek (161) goes harder then the fb (186) so i think thats the path.

161 goes OK.That's essentially what I'm running ( 149 bored to 167 cubes ) and I'm happy with it.
No powerhouse but certainly more power than the grey.I think Devilrod also runs a 161 in his EK?
You might even get a chirp out of it!!
All red motors fitment wise into FB/EK are the same from the 138 red motor up to the 202.
I think there was recently a "how to fit" post with photos on fitting a Troublematic to an FC on the FE/FC Forum in recent months so I'll see if I can find it and point you to it on that forum.FE/FC's share the same floor pan as FB/EK's so it should be near same fitment procedure.
If you have a hydramatic bodied EK then the trans tunnel should be OK with fitment of a Traumatic as is, but if the car is manual bodied then you will most likely have to fit a bigger trans hump to the floor in addition to other mods.
Best to fit a chassis rail for Traumatic rear crossmember to bolt to.Some blokes have just made a rear crossmember that fitted to the floor pan and have had no problems there although some engineers frown upon that type of rear trans mount fabrication.
Some of the blokes on the forum here have Traumatics in their FB/EK's so I'm sure they'll be able to give you some fitment tips.
Hope some of this info is of use to you.

I can't think what to write here so this will do.
Think of the opportunity cost - save $250, spend hours getting it in, and then have to spend many more hours behind the wheel because you drive a sloooow carCraig wrote:Buy a hundred dollar running grey and drop that in $250 left for beer
Only joking. Just stirring.
J, I say stuff the ek in your garage, buy a daily and stick a v8 in it while it is garaged.

Even if you ditch the chassis kit (i was only talking the long rails anyway for now) throw in the HR front if you got it, dump in a 202/trimatic, and then look for a way to fab a crossmember, not enough experience with what points to pick up on for the crossy thats the only reason i suggested rails...plus there anti-roll benifots with all that extra powerJ wrote:thanks for all the info nomad but I really dont wanna get that complicated with the chassis kit etc. I just want it on the road asap, dnt think il ever go commy engine or chev (although id like to).

then sell your front end for beer money and shout us all a round...surely some bloody restorer might be swung by a grey king pin with discs....
