Do you have a plan for the exhaust , Id imagine you are going a big bore pipe like 3 inch on both sides .

Harko, the exhaust is all measured and planned out, it will fit although there are some "cosy" areas

Trial fit of Torana frontend, modified P76 discs, HQ calipers and "pumped" guard. Very happy with the clearance at this low ride height (front 2" lower than rear, should be a good stance). Have to keep reminding myself that these wheels are 15" which doesn't make it any easier  .

:) The peice that you put above the rear end that has clearance for the diff, the photos dont show the shock mounts only small holes shouldnt there be some strengthening there as there is lots of preasure from the vertical movement from the shocks .My floor tore around the original mounts when I had similar coil over shocks I had to weld 1/8th plate there to stop flexing

No probs  ....... top shock mounts aren't even in yet, trial fitup was to measure for the best position and fab the top mounts, will post them when done. Also had to do this "prefit" to double check the best way to run the exhaust (on the inside or outside of the coilovers). Also had to check for the exhaust clearance on the fuel tank at the same time, it's all good :D :D :D

Gary,
Its good to see your thought process is allways one step ahead of everything.Just what you need to build something like this
Have you rolled the rear guard lips as well??
Also curious about the front end still. The measurement between the shock towers is smaller than the HR as you have stated; so I assume the wishbones on the torana are longer or is it the stubbs that have more offset to the outside??
Are you going to pump the finished product guards or can you get away with removing the lip??
The rear looks great with big wheels but here in NSW no go for rego which is a bummer.
Keep the good work up.

Regards Greg

It's a pain in the arse isn't it!
They look great with some decent rubber under the rear.

The car looks great. Top notch work!

you can do it in NSW :D you get the car regoed first, 1. have a friendly pink slip guy, 2. be carefull what you do and where you do it and most importantly 3. pray you don't ever get defected  which isn't to hard if you pay attention to rule 2. :D

Sammy wrote:very interested to see how you've done the gauges as i want to fill my cluster with something that will work with a commodore wiring harness and sensors .... is the fuel sender the original fb/ek one ... im keen to know if a new gauge will work with an old sender ?

keep up the good work, its starting to really take shape!
Sammy, I am using the wiring harness out of the VN SS including the main fuse panel etc.... stay tuned :D ( this will plug straight into the VN SS commonwhore steering column I have fitted to the EK, which is just a bloody bonus, one less job to do!).
In regards to the fuel gauge, the original sender "old style" will work with a "modern gauge" as long as the sender "ohms" (ohms is resistance) range/readings are what the "gauge" requires, other than the 12 volts this is the only other parameters that the gauge/sender combo requires to work (other than wire  ) :D . I am fitting a new sender that is Empty/ Full, 240 Ohms/ 33 Ohms and the new Autometer gauge to suit this ohm range (many ranges available). From memory the EK standard sender is 0 - 30 ohms (I stand corrected if wrong  ) so you would need to have a gauge that is the same "ohms range" empty to full, or change the sender to suit. The same goes for the temp' gauge etc..... if you buy the gauge to match the "ohms" reading of the sensor then she's thumbs up on the dash!!(gauges and senders are available in many ranges).
its good to know there are so many different options out there of ohms calibrations! i have a vr executive wiring loom in my car and plan to wire all new gauges into it so that should work well!

Cheers for the posts y'all!

EK283, yes the guard lip is rolled, but not flattened out. The Torana wishbones are alot longer than the HR items, the stubs are similar length. The "final guards" will have the lip removed, rolled and pumped slightly as I don't want dramas with tyres rubbing when we drop it down low, the guards look good with the current setup (photos probably don't really show it), I could get away with less but then it would be a case of "oh, a driveway, better be careful of how I do this so the tyre doesn't rub!!! .

Thanks Harko, much appretiated and your "EK Coupe" is lookin' tough as too!! 8) 8)

GAS455, yep, it's a pain in the arse.......... but will be worth every bit when finished :D

Ratbox,    you are a certified worry!         the world would be a boring place without it's "Ratboxes!"

Sammy, I will post some pics when I do the loom, I will separate all wires and use all wire colours for each item I need ie: indicators, horn, headlights, ignition etc as per the commodore wiring diagram and remove what is not required and seal them off. This will make fault finding in the future alot easier as I will be able to use the commodore worshop manual wiring diagram to track stuff  .

Look at the "Avatar" or first pics I posted as "ride height" :D the best bit is that I have got the rear down 20mm lower and the front is actually 35mm lower than the first pics posted and the avatar pic (which was just the body suspended and the wheels attached to thin air!!!    ). Very happy with the end result! :D :D .

I'm the same...... can't wait to drop her on the deck!

:? What are the laws in Darwin will you be able to get it street legal or is it going to be a show pony. In Tassie you wont be able to register a car like that no matter how good its done. You use to but some pen pushing ass hole got in and astalavista baby to all pro stocks, the only ones now are show ponys (trailered to and from shows) I was going to make a pro stock but because I wasnt aloud to use it on public roads the plan was scrapped, and most bits sold off 350 block, turbo hydro 400 shortened 10 bolt diff from HK monaro

bigalhusband, no trailered show pony here, we have an "approved in priciple" system in the NT. Basically you consult with an engineer with your ideas then they are submitted to the TAC for "pre-approval" (Technical Advisory Comittee - for Rego) and if it is done to the standards required by the Engineer/TAC then it is able to be fully registered. The MVR (Motor Vehicle Registry) in the NT is very strict, however in their defence they do have logic and can see if something is "slapped together" or "constructed correctly", supporting report from a recognised Engineer is required. The only item knocked back on our original submission was the large variation between front and rear tyres (width variation cannot exceed 70% (small variance allowed - 1-2mm), so we had to increase the front tyre size from 195 to 205 We intend to drive this EK as often as we can so the "trailer" is not an option. We are planning to "trailer" her from Darwin to Adelaide but are also "considering" (if everything is favorable  ) driving her from Darwin to Bendigo for the 2009 Nats :D .
