Hi Drew I used the Knox carpet as well as their underlay and it is exactly as Harv said, I bought extra carpet and did behind the seat of my Ute they were good to deal with I though good quality at a good price.

The little bit extra you spend on the plush pile is well worth it , I know that doesn't fit in with the "budget" theory though .....

Anyways here goes with a bit more of an update…

Got the inner floor etched, seam sealed and covered in stone guard.

It’s a big box to get ticked off.

Even splattered a thick layer of stone guard on the inside roof.
Hoping to stop a bit movement in the sheet metal.
Should I have done dynamite?
Probably yes but it’s an old car with no air cond so it will be hot as hell no matter what I do.

If you really think I should dynamat the roof shout out and give me 2 cents worth, I’m all ears.

Even tipped the diff assembly out of the ‘carton of beer’ wreck.
Stripped it all down and threw the housing and a couple of rusted diff centres in the acid bath.

Being 3.55 centres I figured I could build 1 out of the 2 but I just had an offer off another member for a 3.36 Center.

Will definitely be taking that offer up!

I did both on the inside of my roof, stone guard first then dyna mat. The dyna mat sticks on very well.

The extra strength it gives the roof panels is unbelievable !!!!

There is a lot of options with this product…
And what kind of $ did it set you back?

I would be dynamatting it now while you have the chance - it made a BIG difference in my "46 Chev.

Agree with others. You don't have to cover every sq inch. Any large panels. It will prevent drumming most importantly.

Diff is a bargain and will work ok with the warmed up grey and not too tall tyres.

Thanks fellas for the advice, I but the bullet and bought 2 rolls of this stuff.

Works out to be $120 delivered which is way under half the price of the dynamat for the same coverage.

I guess time will tell what the product is like but I’m sure it will be absolutely fine

There is a subtle difference in some of the cheaper sound deadeners. The expensive ones use a butyl material. It sticks, and stays stuck. It is pretty impervious to heat, just like windscreen sealant. Some of the cheaper ones use bitumen type backing. It sticks too, but can melt and ooze a bit under heat. Not a big deal on the floor, but would be nasty under a headliner.

To guard against this, its a good idea to cover any joins between the deadener sheets with ally tape. Get some from Bunnings: https://www.bunnings.com.au/weatherproo ... lsrc=aw.ds

The ally tape also covers the sharp edges of the joins. Not a big deal once the carpet is in, but if you are going to be rolling around inside doing wiring etc before the carpet goes on the edges can be nasty.

Cheers Harv, I did it know what the hype about Butyl was all about until you just broke it down for me.

I double checked the website and they claim that it is Butyl so I should be right to stick it too the roof.

Feeling much better knowing the other boys have used it too!
