custom work is in the eye of the beholder there is and has been in my opinion some stuff done that is vile (not just talking FB/EK's) but to me shaved door handles on a propper custom is a must especially on FB/EK's and cars of similar shape as they stick out like sore thumbs, but it's also not the be all and end all, the fb/ek i'm doing now as a 4 door the rear handles will go mainly cause they're damaged where some tool bent the handles down to get the scratch plates off and when it's 2 doored they'll stay as i'm goining for the look of a factory 2 door sedan

Really hope to get back to the car soon. No progress....

Damn Flu has been going around the house. Son for a few weeks, then the wife, then me.
Took hold and just as it was getting a bit better my doctor decided he didn't like a lump on my back.
Decided to cut a chunk out and throw in a few stitches.

Bored and Sore, hopefully not for much longer :? :?

I did however notice something strange. :? :?

Both taillights were missing the reverse bulbs.
They had a rubber plug inserted into the reverse socket.

Was this a Standard model thing or was there another reason why this was done ?????

yep just means it never had reverse lights, they were an option or atleast the tail lights came from a car that didn't have them

Yep, the clear indicator lenses were changed by law to orange sometime in early 1972 from memory.

Stitches come out tomorrow, but couldn't wait and finished rubbing back the roof today. :D :D

Started with 400 grit and then did 600 grit to finish.
Hopefully will get the first coats of paint on it tomorrow.
If it looks half a good as it does sanded, I'll be very happy :D :D :D

this may sound like a really stupid question but did you sand it wet or dry?
just wondering as if it was done wet wouldn't the paint absorb the moisture with it being porous?
luke.

Wet.

I'm not an expert in this area, by any means.
But I'm pretty sure that you need to wet sand the primer (and remove the guide coat) prior to painting. :? :?

At least that's what I have done in the past.

Strange, but I was of the same opinion also.

Always wet sanding the final primer, but dry sanded the earlier ones.

I don't think you can sand fine enough with dry sanding.

Yes. primer in porous, but I thought you didn;t have a choice at this stage. :? :? :?

Took me 4 hours to sand the roof back so I'd hate to see what dry sanding would have taken me, with clogging etc.

Love to hear what others recommend :? :? :D :D

cool, thanks for clearing that up sunnyrob.
phew, i thought i was going to end up with moisture under my paint from my own ignorance, as they say "the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked".
