I fly home next Friday into a 2 week lockdown at home , hoping to get some progress on the red rattler done while i am not allowed to leave the house .

I ordered some belts from northcote( about 12 k’s away) so I cant pick them up so they left northcote on the 21st august - still haven’t arrived - good old aussie postpone

I should be right, no travel restrictions for the wife and kids, they can run around after me for a change instead of the other way around
I reckon its gonna take 2 days just to clean the bloody shed out - its a brothel in there at the moment

Damn Rosco... now you made me remember my rods. I went looking for them, but cannot find them. They are in a pine box with a sliding Masonite lid. They taught me words like cyan, magenta and crimson... and that they made excellent forts for plastic toy soldiers. They are here somewhere, though I found other stuff I had forgotten - photos from my grandfather from WW2 Haifa and Cairo, commonwealth bank books, and photos of a very young, plastered Harv that remind me that my son’s shenanigans are perhaps hereditary.

I was supposed to be looking for the Chev crank turning tool, but instead found my rods.

The Chev may have to wait... I’ve got hours of revisiting my childhood, building towers with rods and running Matchbox cars into them.

Dammit... I’m easily distracted

LOL - your not even in lockdown Harv - there does seam to be a similarity between the rods and working on engine bits - put em together - pull em apart again - repeat.

Chev crank turning tool? I use a 15/16" socket on the alternator pulley nut.

I'll have a play tomorrow, curious to see if it will work. Might have to find a metric socket for the Bosch alternator though .

No fan to play with, but have tried previously by grabbing and forcing the belt. The cam has plenty of overlap, but when the valves shut with 10.5:1 behind them it don't line turning. Belt slips on the crank pulley before the crank turns. The harmonic balancer has a keeper bolt, and I managed to strip it last time when I tried turning it over using the keeper bolt with a socket.

The turning tool has three holes, and replaces the crank pulley. I can then get on to it via a 1/2" square drive.

Tried the socket on the alternator pulley. No go - not enough belt wrap on the crank pulley to stop it slipping.

Found the turning tool, now to find the bolts that fit it

Done some playing around with accelerator linkage and think this will work although needs some refining - used an old stock adjustable bracket on the bottom but cut the leg off and adapted a modern moon wheel to the top - needs a bit more stand off at the top to clear choke lever though so might have to custom something up for that - Rod works but need a way to fasten either end

You need two small washers with compatible diameter. The inner is stopped by a pinch in the rod. The sandwich is held together by a small split pin through the hole in each end. Off to Bunnings but Dan says no!?
