The red motors when pushed hard tend to have the oil sit up high in the rocker covers and lean the sump of oil. You can use different style lifters with the hole higher up to reduce the flow to the top end and I have also fitted a drain from the back of the rocker cover to the sump to promote the return. I also used 10 litres of oil in the engine and never had a problem with bearing failure after that.

Greg
I deburred the inside of the block to aid oil return , at the end of the day its only a street motor and should only get thrashed about 400 metres at a time ......
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Should work fine, provided the hole you drilled is in the same volute as the normal outlet. The gear pumps are positive displacement, so a lot less fussy about outlet location than a centrifugal pump.

This is on the suction side mate, it runs to the pickup in the sump.

Had a productive weekend, didn’t get too many hours in but made some good progress Image
Oil pump trick works a treat , just need a bit of final fettling at my mates machine shop tomorrow refacing the cover plate and that’s doneImage
Now that there is no pickup line in the way the steering shaft fits so the steering is sorted Image

Image

While I was buggerising around with the steering I redrilled the holes for the clutch cable and bugger me if there isn’t just enough room to fit a hydraulic clutch master next to the booster so all the cable shit went in the bin and I scrounged up enough bits to put a clutch slave and fork in it - just need to buy a new master cylinder and throw out bearing as the cable setup is different Image
Got sidetracked finishing off those 14 x 7 Tasmans I picked up the other week
Sanded the spokes starting with 240 and finishing with 1500 , then polished them , chrome was beyond saving so I hit them with hi fill and a coat of black - will pick up some dress rims for them and call them done. Thinking hard about redoing them as 15” and chrome

Nice mate. At least the rims are solid, unlike my set. I saw another set for sale in Perth recently on gumtree.

Well its been 6 months, time to do a bit more on the poor old rattler , made the bonnet hinges tonight - needed to move them back 5 mm so I cut a 5mm section out of the middle ....

So now that it's 5mm shorter at this end, I slotted the hole in the other end to make it the same length as it was
