First steps in replacing rear section begun today.

Oversize cuts for now and lots of rust work to do here before the stitch up. I always cut oversize and do final trim of spaces with piece sitting over holes. That will be a bit harder than usual for this piece, but it saves an awful lot of work from having to fill in gaps from overzealous hacking.

Fortunately 2 of everything in stock if/when there is a stuff up. Probably a week of rust repair work behind tail lights and on tray supports to do. Will have to have a good think about access and alignment issues before piecing it back together. Coffee timeImage

Following your work closely Brett I am slowly becoming an arm chair β€œUte restorer” 😎

Does the battery power the shed coffee machine?

I wishπŸ˜€. No the battery is for a LED worklight. And as standby defibrillator power pack!

Big cut and shut job! Maybe an opportunity to gap your tailgate.

I wonder if you are winding me up again Brett. Of course you are going to make sure the tailgate fits ok before you do the shut.

Oh I see. Yes Clay, I will check it, probably by measuring, but not expecting much trouble because bottom of opening is still welded as original and top section, which is the most likely to go out a bit, has got that big blue brace and has to line up with bottom sections. I guess we will soon see how it went. πŸ˜€
Wind you up? - what?

First fit today. All the landmarks are lining up pretty well, so a bit of rust treatment and then tacking up and checking component fit before putting it back on the rotisserie for welding. Its getting closer to being a 'normal' rusty ute againImageImage

A bit of progress. Still quite a bit to do but it's fitted and secured. Some rolled strips to make and some minor rust repairs, but no longer the ute it used to beImageImageImage
