Now getting back on track. Bought the ol girl not knowing if she ran or not. Engine was complete and not pulled apart so I thought there might be a chance.
So this arvo went like this
1. Bought a battery and put it in
2. Checked to see if had ignition lights on dash....check
3. Check to see if she turns over...check
4. Had wife turn key so I could check spark at points (reset the gap) and a plug...check
5. Pulled air filter off and poured abit of fuel down the carb
6. Pulled choke and hit the key
7. Woohoo (insert happy dance here)
it runs
8. Drove it in and out of the garage, another woohoo clutch and box work
So I was stoked, let it warm up and the 186 idles smooth and is quiet.
Now remember this car has sat outside since 1993 and the woman who sold it to me said it had been driven once or twice since then. But couldn't remember when the last time was.
She had given it to a friend who wanted to restore it and two months later she was paying for it to be towed home as he had taken off to WA for work and left it at the house he was living and it wasn't running.
She had refused stupid offers for years and a month ago was toying with the idea of scrapping it, but luckily for me the scrap prices are low.
She also had a guy offer her a $1000 month in month out, but never actually fronted with the money.
A mate of mine told me about it, I went around and the deal was done.
You would have never of guessed it, but when putting it on the trailer the bloke who had offered the $1000 drove past (he looked pissed off).
Anyway I reckon all I'll have to do for rego is some small things like brakes (leaky wheel cylinder? as no fluid in resivior) and a tail light lense.

, These cars had V4, V6, V8's, the 4 cyl was a 2 stroke that made up to 130 hp, so they probably would leave any grey for dead
