but it's not rusted out
it's got a bit of rust, alot i would nearly say most FB/EK's either have or have had this same rust, it's just that in the style it was done the repairs that were done are left un dressed intentionally

Agreed 100%, it's the structural rust that I don't like the most, it is dangerous, the rest you could learn to live with, Trevratbox wrote:but it's not rusted outit's got a bit of rust, alot i would nearly say most FB/EK's either have or have had this same rust, it's just that in the style it was done the repairs that were done are left un dressed intentionally

I've gotta say that I agree with Trev. An original condition car that's a little scruffy (and obviously "in the process"), but generally mechanically sound and not rusting into holes, isn't a shitter in my opinion. The difference may just be in the program of constant improvement/repair.

what is a rat, that just looks like a car pulled out of the bush, its not what i would call a rat but looking at the rust, its all pretty typical, i bet alot of nice looking cars out there are sporting that much rust or more under bog.
if you got ripped off depends on what you paid, i wouldnt pay anymore than 2500 for that but i bet alot of people buy nice shiney ones not realising there full of rust till one day they strip the paint and filler off.
the rails underneath always have a bit of rust if they havent been replaced, the inner sills often have holes, outer sills just about always unless they are fresh, doglegs too.
in my FC i also had to cut out those bits on the pillar down the sides of the tailgate, infact half the back of the car ended up being rusted through by time i striped it.
to get that thing rust free is going to take over your life for the next couple of years unless you get someone else to do it, i planned a two week tidy up on mine nearly 4 years ago and i only just got the paint back on, i had to teach myself mig and learn alot, there will be heaps more rust than that, have you checked the floors and the bottom of the pillars yet, wait till you take the gaurds off around the bottom of the winscreen.
alternatively you could weld up the major rust holes, replace that rail underneath with a rare spares one and just keep driving it.
cheapest way out is to buy a mig AND HIRE A GAS CYLINDER and just start doing it, easiest way is to put it in somewere to get done, depends on your situation.

Hey Rat138, My sedan was way worse when we pulled her down. Replaced nearly everything from 5 inches up the doors all the way through from front to rear. Stuctural rust can be replaced faily easily with the right replacments and floor pans are easy. If your going to do it yourself, I'd be looking for a parts car to replace some of the bits you can't buy or rebuild. In the end you'll end up with a nice car in what ever finish you like and please don't do as many others have and thats sell it after all the hard work is done!!!

Ok for those of you that are interested, the "fbomb" looks like she'll be staying more or less as is. The subframe repairs are happening right now, but nothing else. Gonna run it as it was, maybe minus some accessories. It's running portawalls and Kustom hubcaps, might eventually get rid of those also and run black steelies with proper whitewalls. The look will be somewhere between Kustom and Ratty. Paint will come, but not straight away, but eventually have to cause on the gold coast she will rust away in no time! Garaged or not.

mrs ratbox
you wanted a "rat" car and that's what you have
fix what matters and just go out cruising and having fun in it
gauarantee you get just as many looks and thumbs up from the people that count as any other early holden does, there's been pics of that car in mags which is more than alot of people on here can say
