Sorry to hijack - I should have put this up ages ago!
-FOR ANYBODY WHO DOESN'T WANT TO USE CANDY PAINT, THIS IS HOW I DID IT, USING METALLIC. ALL DONE IN ACRYLIC-
* This is a guide only, attempt at your own risk *
1. Prep the roof as per normal paint prep procedure (I'm sure this has been covered in other threads), and mask up everything except the roof.
2. Spray your metallic base, mine is a custom mix to suit the interior trim, with extra metallic.
3. Once base is dry enough, mask up everywhere you DONT want the lace pattern.
4. Place the lace over the roof and secure with masking tape. Ensure you don't pull it to tight as you can warp the pattern, also make sure your lines are straight.
5. Now get another mixing cup, and pour some of your metallic paint into it. Put a dab of this paint on whatever you have laying around.
Now add a little bit of black acrylic, to make it a shade darker, or to your liking.
Put a dab next to the original colour to compare.
6. Once happy with the colour the lace pattern will be, lightly spray this over the lace, be careful not to move the lace at all.
7. Now add some more black to this lace colour and make it a bit darker again. Spray this around the edge, to make the lace stand out more.
8. Remove the lace, and the masking tape. Leaving the car masked off
9. Spray clear coats
10. De-mask the rest of the car
11. Once the paint has cured 1-2 weeks later, you can sand the clear back smooth, and give it a good buff.
12. Go for a cruise
Hope this helps some people out
