don't worry to much about saving yor life with a colapsable colum
the bloke next door 33years old hit a tree 2 weeks ago in a late model falcon cops estimate speed between 90-100 KMH steering colum hit him under the chin killed him instantly
so much for all these bullshit saftey inclusions

Right well i have no idea what to do now!!!

Well can someone write me a list of what i need to do the conversion to rack and pinion without a collapsible column using a standard issue and roughly the cost i might be looking at, because im stupid and have no idea!!!

It sucks not knowing anything!!! But at least i'm young and still have some brains left in my skull, not saying that older people dont!!! hahahahahahahaha

Well not really expecting or wanting to crash, havent yet touch wood and wont this.......

So thats why i'm just trying to to

find out options and costs and what i need for the full conversion to rack and pinion!!!

That column looks pretty impressive Camstu, has anyone had experience with these ? Im curious to know what they are made from originally or are they brand new fabricated ?

Damn considering getting one for the sedan and put the current one in their aside for the panelvan when the V8 rolls around.

Yeah thats what i thought about it when i saw it!!! It would look very smooth in an FB or EK cabin!!!

By the way - Take a look at the rear bumper on the back of this EK Ute!!!

Custom or off another car???

that's what i think DR you don't go out with intentions of having a crash, i can see some merrits in seatbelts and things like good brakes are a must but stoopid shit like demisters,2 speed wipers,window washers/squirters

have you ever been driving the roadster and considered what would happen in a head on

i used to think about it in the roadster p/u we had very very scary, chassis would go under the other car so all we had to protect us was a radiator held in with a couple of bolts, a small block chev held in with rubber mounts and that was it, if we had the bonnet on it probably would have been punched back and decappitated us

back to the steering colum, you can use torana from LC-UC will need some bracket fab, you can get a standard colum modified cut, shortened and a bearing fitted or modify a colum out of something else, you will prolly need to check with an engineer as you may have to have a collapsable collum which a standard collum modified is not

Talk to your local engineer. Seriously if you are planning mods that require their input. Better of asking them as they will know what NEEDS to be done.

Yep very scary, worse still I know of someone who had that happen. He'll never be the same again. I try not to think of it and drive exceedingly defensively, you have too. Its what I call self preservation...

There are people who do kits.They can supply you with a column,extention rod,knuckles,rack,tierod adaptors,brackets to mount rack to x-member.I got mine from castlemaine rod shop by making a phone call.They freight anywhere.For me that was an easy option.

I rang them up and they were great, but he said that he would need a rack and pinion for change over??? What the???

Sounds all to hard, especially if its not going to benefit me a whole lot, maybe just stick with the standard set up and make sure its in great working order....whats the opinion???

if yor not doing a V6/V8 conversion stick with what you have, like you said it's alot of money/drama for little benefit
