I'm still trying to work out why you would spray the whole car in wd40? Polish protects paint, oil usually gets into it and stains..

By the way welcome and get it into a decent shed before the elements take their toll. It looks like an easy enough fix up at the moment. Leave it too long it won't be.

Hi Devil dude..thanks for the welcome ....as for why the wd-40 it has already been gone over.... as i said before not the wisest move in hindsight but if you want more of an explanation ...maybe the following might satisfy ya~

Why ? Because I am a goose and stupidly thought it would liven up the dry old sunbaked paint and stop a bit of surface rust in the process. I started by spraying the bumpers then more chrome then got carried away

I remember when i was a car detailer (not a very good one it seems lol) at a Honda dealership one old lady who owned a white early model Accord insisted i put a cap full of paraffin oil in the wash bucket every time she brought it in for a service ....something she had done since new....and the paint was remarkable as it was not chalky dry like every other white car of its era ....so my head bone said oil on dry paint is good to keep it supple...and wd-40 is oily!

Yep quite stupid of me really ...but you know what they say about spilt milk~

As for shedding the car, as you may have read, that's my main goal at the moment..... well getting it started so i can drive it into a shed.

Took the sump plug out of it to drain the oil today and i'll leave it draining till Saturday. I'll take the good advice given and take the rocker cover off and check it over and oil it up, clean the plugs, check the wiring, fit a new battery and get ready to fire it up!

Will get it pulled out of the shed by a 4wd so i can get to the tank to drain it (still need to research how to do that) and then put in new fuel and hopefully fire it up to drive it out for a wash down before putting it in a shed.

After that i plan to put it on blocks and start pulling the wheel cylinders out to get them redone, inspect and repack the wheel bearings so i can take it for a spin once a month or so. After it rockin n rollin ill start attacking it in small chunks!

We all do some crazy stuff...back in the mid '80s I heard about this amazing fish oil stuff so I sprayed it all up under the guards etc of the FB...I had some left over and thought shame to waste it...so started spraying it on the paint work...got most of the roof and boot done before I realised my error... I spent the next day or so polishing it all out...

I still have the FB and the original paint is amazing for a 50 year old vehicle...

Had a good day today.....got a new battery for it this morning and this afternoon i managed to get the old girl out of the duck shed.
The rear left wheel seemed locked up ...but besides that it got out ok.

Hosed the muck off it, gave it a wash (Looks ok wet lol) and checked out the worst bits ...of which there are a few.
Rear right lower panel has some bad rust, failed the thumb push test.
Left side boot and fin area look bad as well.
Bodywork isn't on my immediate plans list but suggestions on a plan of attack are welcomed!

Topped it up with coolant and I am prepping to start it tomorrow.
Has no clutch fluid so will have to try and bleed the clutch, also found the tank drain plug!
Will also have to unlock the rear left wheel~

Having some troubles with the clutch ...fluid was bone dry, any bleeding tips?

Its leaking at the top,the bottom or both if its empty.

Disassemble and inspect.

It's scrubbed up well.

Looks ok wet from a distance lol.....Freed the locked drum, got some clutch pedal but the slave looks cactus.
Drained the tank, cleared the filter, added new fuel but still had some crud fuel coming through, had it ticking over but looks like it wasn't pumping enough to keep running.

When spraying the wd40 on the valves be carefull not to get any on the paint work as I have heard this can cause problems

Yes you would rather get it in your eye than on paintwork
CRC or RP7 is a whole different story

Aww dunno, had paint stripper in my eye once, not sure what was worse the stripper or getting my eye flushed out for 20mins.....yeh hang on the stripper was!!!

Tim thanks for your reply, followed your directions, cleared the carby plus needle/seat and worked backwards.....ended up finding the meshed hose going into the fuel pump had got twisted and kinked the old rubber inside it, restricting the flow and it also was loose on the tank end of it. Replaced it with the one from the spare car and watched the fuel bowl fill with fuel before it ticked over like a charm.
Drove it around the paddock then into the shed.
Has a bad flat spot just above idle that i seem to remember from long ago~

Don't be tempted to "fully strip her and get everything totally rebuilt".
MANY a car has been lost to projects that run out of time/money/room/interest which usually end up as a pile of random parts on e-bay and never see the road again
Keep her in one piece & mobile and you will find things will be done much quicker, cost less and most importantly, still be enjoyable
Take one step at a time, get to know a few of the great people here and you will find the whole process very rewarding.
