I got the dash off evilbay from Lockwood Special, I would have done it myself but this one was advertised with the clock and I got the whole thing for about $450.

The speedo is a VDO from Gardner Conversions. Kit cost $300 for the white face or $250 for the black face.
The only thing is they have a black outer ring on the speedo which I didn't like, so I got a guage from an old Cortina which is the same size and has a chrome ring. I carefully removed the black ring from the VDO guage and replaced it with the chrome one from the Cortina. A little bit of mucking around but now it looks like its supposed to be there. I then used an original FB speedo, took out the guts and fitted the VDO one inside, that was real easy.
The air box is a high flow box from a VS/VR. I'm going to put a hole in the back and run a pipe to the grill area for fresh air. You could fit a pod type filter with a lot less mucking around but then your only drawing hot air from the engine bay.

There's not much room left in the engine bay alright, I was going to try to squeese in a battery also but got the shits and decided to put it in the boot.
As far as car shows go, I've been there and done that. This thing is only going to be a daily driver. But I would like to head south in it when its finished even if it was just to catch up with a few of you guys for a drink or three

The extractors turned out really good, I must have had a brain fart and forgot the pickies on that one. Yes they do fit nicely between the engine and rails.
Maybe the 6 month guy has finished it and moved on to the next project.

And for you greg, the extractors and the two 3inch high flow cat converters yet to be fitted. I'm going to do the full exhaust system myself out of 3inch pipe with mandrel bends.
And then once its running I'll start on the Chev look.

Thats what I like to see exhaust that breaths! Do the converters have oxygen sensors as well?
The chev exhaust is so tight and in reality I cant make them without spending months doing so. I know its the easy way out but through the inner fenders they go. Many people comment that they don't look factory but when was the last time you saw a factory V8 EK with a turbo700 and 9 inch diff?
The V8 actually fits ok just, but it also doesn't have all the bling that yours has
I think at this stage you are winning the race with your build . Ive had some new challenges at work so no time to play

The cats do have a place for oxygen sensors to go but I used the VT commodore ones and put them in the collector on the bottom of the extractors. How are you going to run your exhaust past this bloody great fuel tank that we've both used?

I bought the compressor mount bracket from Gardner conversions, but it didn't fit straight on as the holes didn't line up properly. I surpose what can you expect to a $300 bracket!
I was told that rods racks in Bris did one for around $75 but when I inquired about it, it wasn't to suit the ecotec motor.

I would say over the diff then outside the spring and then straight out ,that appears to be the only way but 3 inch pipes may be a problem.
I will have a good look over the weekend see what pops into my old noggin!

Hi Sam,
Hopefully I will have some more updates soon as I'm on leave for the next 3 weeks. Just finished the surge tank but as usual I have about 10 unfinished jobs on the go at once. Hopefully I will have it so I can turn the key and start it by the end of my holidays. I just got notified today that my wheels will be in Bris within the next 2 day from the US of A. That will really get me excited then.

RTA regs are still the same as it was 20 years ago for exhaust exit. Must be exited 30cms beyond the furthest rearward opening door.
So on a sedan can be dropped and exited right at the back of the diff. On a ute as is 30cms beyond the front doors, But on a wagon its right at the rear unfortunately, cause they class the rear tailgate as the rear opening door.

Those are 3inch High flow cats, the screw fitting provision is for exhaust temperature sensor and not for the Oxygen sensors, they are a straight bolt on replacement for the Skyline and Sueby, they'll be the treat for your motor and nice job on the extractors, plenty of good progress there.

I just checked and the pickies and they opened up ok for me, mind you the other night I went to have a look at someone elses progress and I couldn't open them either but when I went out and logged back in again it worked fine so I don't know whats going on there.
