Re: FB Standard Wagon
Numbers don’t bother me too much on this car, either way she is getting a rough once over!
Can anyone tell me if this paint is a bad idea to use on bare steel... considering I may need to paint over the top of it later on?
I’m thinking of other paint will stick properly on top of it.

Re: FB Standard Wagon
With epoxy enamel it will need sanding or scuffing entirely for other paints to stick over it.
What do you want to cover ?

Re: FB Standard Wagon
I used that Rustguard paint often. It goes on well over bare steel - I normally use the primer first, but appears to go OK on its own too. I used it to protect Grace's ute's bare tub before it was painted.
My only drama with it is that it is very soft. Even after 4 years of curing, the black bits in my wagon engine bay (primer + 3 top coats) will scratch off pretty readily. Nowhere near as hard as 2-pack or acrylic.
Cheers,
Harv

Re: FB Standard Wagon
Slightly off-topic, about painted or bright metal surrounds -
Our family's HR Special wagon was always prone to having the paint peel off the rear side window surrounds. It wasn't until the mid '80s that I worked out what was going on: It had Premier surrounds (stainless) fitted, which were overpainted white at the factory.

Re: FB Standard Wagon
I doubt acrylic would stick to it well. Enamel on the other hand will stick to most things.

Re: FB Standard Wagon
So back much earlier in the year I picked up this ratty wreck for the princely sum of 1 carton of beer, it’s amazing the bits that you can still scavenge!
Got to meet a good new mate named Jeff too while I was at it.
This wreck is now in more pieces and has been transferred to the back yard lol

Re: FB Standard Wagon
Gday Geoff, yeah mate all the rust is done and yes I’m starting to seal the underbody up.Blacky wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 3:19 pm good progress mate , must be getting pretty close to paint underneath and assembly by the looks ???
I am about to cover it underneath with body deadner but I’m getting last minute nerves.
If I ever need to do any work on it underneath again it will be a mess to get off…
Not sure if I should do it or not.
