Re: FB ute
Had a go at it yesterday arvo, after cleaning up the block , running a tap through the head bolt holes and drilling holes for the improved cooling head gasket - thanks again Harv
- I unwrapped the bottom of the head , gave it a squirt of Hylomar , along with the block and the head gasket , cleaned up the head bolts and threw the head on . When I unwrapped the rest of the head I realised the bloody thing was not painted
, too late so on it went. I then spent the rest of the afternoon chasing around for a can of grey engine enamel
Ended up getting one mixed at my favourite paint shop so this arvo I masked it up and painted it. While I was doing that my mate Mick was cleaning up some of the crap on the carbies, they have been filthy for years - there’s a reason why you never see the bonnet open on my ute at shows

Anyway he cleaned them up nice so I went the extra mile with a mild case of CDO and masked them off and repainted the linkages and pulled all the screws out and painted them as well. Kept plugging away at it and now it’s all back together, just need some coolant in the morning and fire it up

Re: FB ute
Nice work Blacky, did it run a few degrees cooler with the different head gasket?
A day in the shed beats a day at work!

Re: FB ute
So had a crack at fixing the FB Valdez today, whipped the side plate off and found a dag from the head gasket sticking out , figured that had to be the problem
Cleaned up all the surfaces, and the old oil that was everywhere, carefully reassembled it all , did a rocker set, fitted my new sway bar , did an oil change, topped up the gearbox, and kicked her in the guts.
Still leaking the bastard- but not as much

So I cleaned off the new rocker cover gasket, scrubbed the sealing surfaces with a scouring pad dipped in prepsol , checked the rocker cover with a straightedge and carefully reassembled it, let the sealant dry and tried it again- and the bastard is STILL leaking
