Well it’s in - bit close on the hinge spring but I can get a different top for the fuel bowl will give better clearance or get a smaller diameter spring if needed - don’t ask me to change the air filter lol- linkage clears well and a 200mm linkage will connect nicely with a return spring on carb - blower pulleys line ip pretty well - need a 4mm spacer to bring blower pulley forward to line up perfectly - a few fine adjustments on a couple of the manifold clamps will have that locked in.
Fan /pulleys and radiator are next to see if it will actually fit or I need go to a single B belt - looking pretty good though ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Hinge-spring-to-fuel-bowl clearance: yes, you took the photo with the bonnet closed. That's why it's darker.
I see what you mean.

Another dumb question: Is it possible to get SUs with the fuel bowl mounted on the other side of the main body?

Yes - can swap bowl to other side but also need swap the levers so its a toss up as yo what can work - I can get a different top for this as well which will also help - thinking 271 Image

. . . changing the air filter element will be easy. Disconnect battery, remove voltage regulator. Done.

Yeah it wont be done often anyway - the reg is actually just a dummy so if it becomes a pain I can remove it as the alternator has an internal one - Im really happy with the space the linkage has to operate in which wis sometimes a hassle to solve - I’ll have to trim the fan fins a touch Image

Pretty exciting Rob. Spring to bowl clearence looks ok in the photo. The dummy reg can be dispensed with I say.

Slow progress on the blower - waiting on some parts for SU so had a go at fitting the fan and radiator - it’s mind numbingly tight both sides of the fan - can tilt the rad forward at top 6-8 mm and clear fan but would still need to trim a fair chunk off the fan blades to clear behind therefore reducing cooling or swap to a B belt single belt setup but pulleys not avail off the shelf so would be custom jobs and lots of other little mods to make work OR I ditch the fan and go to a thermo fan front of rad - stuffs up the original look but certainly the easier option.
Who has one that looks kinda period that might work - can you post some pics pls
Other things to do
- buy belts
- fuel and vac lines
- waiting for oil pressure and water temp gauge to go with Harvs boost meter and then route them in
- more work to do on linkage getting the throw of the pedal action to match the carb lever - ordered a longer arm carb lever which should help but still a bit to okay with but might jerry rig fuel and vacc and see if it puffs soon

I'd say avoid trimming fan if possible Rob. Mine is very close with the red motor about 6mm

Is there enough space to get bolts through the rad to mount a thermo fan directly to rad or do you need make a cowl up?

I think you want it to look stock BUT you could recess the radiator into the support bar by 12 mm or so it would give you a little more room.
