Ok Daz Image

Poor old sedan out in the rain while I concrete the carport. I’ve been compacting it gradually since 2005 when I built the shed.Image
Doing it in sections with a builder mate and Raff and me on Barrows. Image

It’s hard to beat a wash in fresh rainwater. We got a much needed 10.5mm today.

Concreting on Saturday and a club run on Sunday, so it had to come out early.

That got me laughing mate

Yeah I’ll be sore no doubt. My mate the 65 year old bricklayer lives on sweet milky instant coffee. Hopefully he will absorb a lot of the pain. Good friend to have.

Yes Trev. We’re looking forward to giving it a decent run over east next month.

Now the new concrete is cured I’ve got the sedan back on the hoist for a going over ready for the upcoming 3000km round trip to Temora.

First I thought I should service the Trimatic. Image
It all looks nice and clean, though the pan was pretty bashed about. Cleaned up and Brunox applied ready to paint. Might have to be Rocket Red. Image

Got all carried away and bought a precise torque wrench to adjust the servo piston. Image
Image
Realised I didn’t have the special tool, which is just a 3/16” Allen head. Off to the local hardware in the next town.

Then realised this is a VK Trimatic, not HQ. HQ manual says torque to 40 inch pound and loosen precisely four turns. VH manual says torque to 4.5Nm and listen precisely five turns. 12 lb in is only 1.36Nm, so possibly same result?

Found a more subdued hue for the pan. Image

It took 5 1/3 turns to turn to torque so I’ll go with the VH spec and loosen 5 turns.

Getting off the hoist engine died. No fuel. Sounds like pump is sucking air although gauge shows 1/4 tank.Image
I happened to record the odometer when I filled up on the last run, and travelled 199 miles. Hmm, that calculates to 21 mpg. Much better than I’ve been getting. Image

Forgot a photo of the pretty trans panImage
Oil change can wait until after the tripImage
Her are my snow chain tyresImage
One is a 10 year old 185/70R 13. The other wheel and tyre I got on a disc front end that I bought in 1986. It is a Uniroyal Wildcat made in Adelaide. It is hard, but not that hard. There are no cracks in it and it holds air. They were a bloody good tyre in the day and they don’t make them like that anymore.

Oh and it is bald, but I don’t see how that matters with snow chains. Pretty unlikely I’ll need to use these but we are required to carry snow chains between Tumutand Cooma on the after cruise.

I have visions of the big 4 tyre let go that someone else on this forum has the record for.

Funny enough Clay I just found 2 if those same tyres in my late fathers estate and have put them on a car just to wheel it around, no cracks like you say and not that hard either. Tyre shop bloke looked at them strangely, i said garden art wheels only !!!!

I found it says 195/70 equivalent. Other one is 185/70 and has a slow leak. Might have to get a couple of cheap new ones.
