How did the brace go Clay? I was going to fit one one day.
Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
I put one on my ute - didn't really make a huge difference - guess if the subframe was rusty or fatigued it might make more of an improvement ?
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I haven’t driven it yet Trevor. I doubt I will notice a difference but there is a slight, very slight, clunk that I will notice if gone. It was $65 posted, easy to fit, and I’ve done everything else, bar overhaul the box, so I thought I may as well. It is a mill finish steel, so I just doused it in wax to retard corrosion.

I was too impatient to paint it and liked the mill finish. Hopefully the wax will preserve it.Mick wrote:the joys of living in Coffs HarbourBlacky wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 10:02 pm I put one on my ute - didn't really make a huge difference - guess if the subframe was rusty or fatigued it might make more of an improvement ?mine was sitting on the shelf in the shed less than a week and started to rust

Did a test run. No noticeable difference in the steering. It is faultless on the highway. Extremely slight clunk still just noticeable. Some understeer since I took off the rear bar.
Next to tackle the economy…..
I don’t think I will use that air filter though.

There are unplugged bung holes in the tops of both metering blocks. Car Parts Plus should have bungs if I need them. Supposed to have been overhauled by Outlaw Speed but I have doubts. Choke mechanism I put on it when I got it has a bit missing so I will rob the one from the 350 that Harv gave me.

I once had one of the Stromberg plugs come loose. Went to Carb Service Co to get some new ones. The gentleman took a BFH, and walloped the side of the carb. Seated it perfectly. Suspect he had done it a lot of times... I would have busted something if I tried it.
Cheers,
Harv

I finally managed to change the plugs on daughter’s Golf and get it out of the shed, and found my handle remover tool. Drivers trim came off to replace the backing card and fish oil the insides. Bone dry with a thimble of rich loam, and a couple of loose trim clips, so I just blew and sucked it out, taped up the drain holes, and poured in 200ml of the good oil. Sloshed about with fingers and brush and jacked the front up so it ran in to the back corners. Shouldn’t have to worry about it for a few years.
I darned up a tear in the trim and reassembled using the old backing foam and contact cement. Need to give them all a hit with some carpet shampoo, and good’e’nuff.
