I trial fitted front seat height adjuster shims. These were an option that became more or less standard dealer upgrade. Obtained a repro set from Pete Mallaby on the FE FC site. I'm just using them on the front to tilt the seat back very slightly for improved thigh support. The seat back is just off touching the cargo wall, which is ideal.ImageImage

Hi Clay, geez - windscreen trim, seat adjusters - looks like you can see an end to it. Patrick

I love getting ahead of myself Patrick. The rubbers and trims will be happily nestled in on the screens by the time I have got the colour on the body, pre-installed seatbelts and installed sound deadening and headlining, which I hope to have done in the next two months. I trial fitted the seat to measure and check for the belts as I want the captive nuts in place before head lining is fitted. She is going for a trip to the trimmer to get the lining installed, the trim being the only thing I am outsourcing for the project.

I need to get sanding as might be warm enough to paint next week here with luck.Image

Pulled the seat out after measuring up for seat belts. I fitted the spacers under the front and put the seat back as far as it would go as I posted earlier. I turned the seat over when I got it out to find the runners were on the third hole. Think I will fit front and rear spacers on the final install so I can hopefully get it back at least one more hole.

Took the runners off for a clean. Lubricated the rollers and bearings as best I could with never seize and they are sliding easier now. Reinstalled and used the pliers to put a kink in the crosswire to shorten it slightly. The passenger runner was not getting the tongue out of the hole properly with the lever down. Should work properly now.

I don’t recall the ute having a knob on the seat adjust lever when I got it, so I had put one on but seemed to stick out too far. So I cut 1/4” off the end of the lever and straightened it.

Gave the runner legs a wire wheel, metal prep, clean and spray with silver rattle can and reinstalled.

She is ready for some serious blocking of passenger quarter prior to colour application, hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday.

I started dressing the steering column. Gear shift. Reverse light switch. Firewall grommet.Image
Next is the honey pot, which needs some more urethane silver first, along with the tank. Sanded out previous runs.Image
I’ll use the silver on the grille and latch bar, rattle rods, seat mount bridges, maybe bonnet brace. Straight off the gun and pretty durable.

Hi Clay, started reading this post from the beginning (up to page 43) Lots of gems in there. One thing that I found and wasn't expecting was that the rear handbrake cable was coated in plastic for the last foot or so. Mine isnt. Is that an issue?
Many thanks

As I recall Brett, the coating is where the cable rubs against the front exhaust hanger on the passenger side. I wouldn't be worried. Is it one of ghe$100 repro ones?

Gee, you've got some reading to do. Heh heh heh.......

Actually I'm really enjoying going through it again. I read it all when I first joined the forum and again when I picked up my ute. I'm revisiting because I've finished the shell rust repairs on the sedan and using your pictures to show me where brake lines, fuel line etc should go before taking it off the rotiserie. Its very handy having these pictures to look at.

The hand brake cables I have were on the car when I got it and my shielded section that goes into the brake back plates is just spiral metal tubing much like a speedo cable outer. There is a short section, of plastic tubing on the inner cable on the exhaust side, but the bit I'm talking about are the outer sections that go into each rear wheel backing plate fitting. My outers are just bare spiral steel tubing, not covered with another layer of black plastic like I noticed in your picture. I'm wondering if it is a problem not having the coating. The cables are in good nick otherwise and until I saw your ones I was thinking this was one bit I wouldn't have to fix up.

Got you Brett. Should work okay but I guess the coating was on there for a reason, to keep the lubricant in and water and dust out. I did try a minor repair on mine using a bit of shrink wrap. I don’t know how durable it will be. As I said you can get a repro item for around $100.

Hi Stephen. I got some more primer on yesterday at 25% thinners to hopefully rub back today. It was drying a bit in a couple spots but I’m hoping this will sand out and be ready for colour. More like.y I will have to go another coat of primer at 75% or 1:1 first. I’ve got to fit in surfing, oh yes and work.
Cheers
Clay
