Thanks for the pic Brett. It helps me think about what to do with the van. I like those filters. They are pretty compact.

Yes, if I had been blessed with a set of Webers when I did the original indent, I would have taken it out to the crease and welded it up and painted. And saved a lot of trouble now. Also, there is a lot to be said for a black firewall when it comes to upgrades. Metalic is not your friend with touch up jobs. I am not happy not welding, but couldn't cope with the paint problems.

P.P.S.. Those filters are nasty bad quality. The clips (12 of them) all required some machining to work properly. Not what you expect when you pay a motza.

A bit more setting up. Waiting on a set of manifold washers to arrive in the post. Very difficult manifolds to bolt on because of the need to go from narrow port to wide carburetor shape. Hopefully alive later this week.

I can recommend the 12 point nuts from ARP if you don’t have them already. They allow use of a 7/16” ring spanner which gives you more swinging room and better purchase.

The only downside of the 12-point nuts is that you cant get an open-ender on them. Some of the smaller 12-points have weird AF sizes (down in the X/32 range) which makes it harder to find a 12-point ring spanner or socket.

I use 12 point primarily for exhaust, and whenever i can on engine components.
Grinding down a cheap spanner on the outside give you more room for those tighter clearance spots.
in some cases its the only way you can get the fastners to work.

That is a nice set up you have there Brett.Those linkages look the business too - much better looking than the off the shelf plastic ones. I had a gotcha setting up my linkages (I have replaced them since I posted my SU build) with the 3 posts that hold the long shaft. Initially I just screwed them down as far as they would go, then adjusted back half a turn on which ever ones were causing the shaft to bind. Thought job done until I set the idle screws, lock the 3 throttle arms to the shaft and pull WOT. The carb on the left, was fully open, the one on the right not so much. Took a bit of fiddling to get all 3 to play together. Was a combination of a lot of small things in the end, but I definitely stitched myself up a bit from the start. At least its an easy fix on the bench.

First run tonight and the innevitable exhaust leak on the 7th port. These manifolds are hard work with fastener clearances, I hope it's worth the time and money that it has gobbled up. It actually ran pretty well straight out of the box, but a bit of time to spend coming up to get it at its best. Tomorrow will be a rest day.

Those carbs usually send the Holden 6 into another galaxy, you should get a pleasant surprise with them.
When I ran them years ago, they always leaked and the culprit was fuel pressure. Once you get that sorted and you work out the jetting they just scream. I hope you don’t mind a bit of fuel usage, cause they like to gulp !

Well. Took it for a run. I always thought people were exagerating when it comes to the difference tripple Webers make on a red six. Was I wrong!!
Finally my little worked 186 is alive. Scary fast and responsive. What a joy.
A couple of experiences to recount:
The Lynx manifold was unworkable for me. Even with lots of die grinding I could not get clearance for 2 bolts/ nuts. It was also 30mm longer that the AussieSpeed manifold that I used. The Aussiespeed manifold also required a bit of a trim in one spot, but nothing like the other one.
The air cleaners were purchased because they were short and fitted my space. Ram tubes are not an option. There are 12 tabs that fasten the cover onto the filters. Everyone of them didn't fit without lots of filing and mucking about. Many bad words tought to the dogs in this time.
On the postive side, Dan at Weber Performance set the carbs up to my engine specs, and they are perfect. Helpful fellow.
Mark at Aussie speed is also very helpful and came up with a modified set of manifold fasteners that helped me overcome 2 difficult spots. He also supplied the manifold which I could use.
It was a big job and one that I am keen not to do again. Even with my existing mods, I had to move the aircon dryer, make an extra space in the firewall, make yet another accelerator cable bracket( number 6). The degree of difficulty fitting them, even with that stuff sorted is very high. No regrets though, it is awesome as the gen xers say.
Blacky, The pedal and cable is off an HQ I think.
