Yeah Yeah I know Ive been busy building a new house so no time for the EK. Don't worry ive been collecting some bits and pieces along the way.
The only thing I need now is a UC Torana front end so I can muck around with a power steering set up. There will be updates soon.

Hi there !
I have decided to ditch the EK and start on a new challenge, something that needs heaps of work. What do you guys think ?
Only joking of course this old girl is giving up some valuable bits for the the mighty EK. Will keep you all posted.

OK Kiddies,
I have almost finished my house so a bit more time for the EK. Actually Ive run out of moola so now is the time for shed work cause I don't have to spend much but time.
I read with interest that the RTA wants to change the rules for modified cars and implement the changes by FEB 2011, (ASRF Article). They say that because rods are being built retaining at least one original chassis member they will now be classed as ICV and not MPV (exemptions apply). What that means is they will have to comply with current ADRs at the date of rego. What the exemptions are god knows but any rule changes make me nervous, so its going to be gangbusters from this weekend on.
I have decided to do the Torana front end mod and possibly power steering which I have. I will muck around with some measurements over the weekend and decide then.
Got the beast on the hoist ready to go, will keep the pics coming.
The 9 inch is in, 35 spline LSD and Mark Williams axles just for fun sake !

Well guys,
I've been hard at it today preparing to install the torana front end, I know we've all seen it before but I'll post it anyway.
The old castlemaine front end, ive had it for nearly 12 years and never used it
The scruffy Torana front end as a comparison
This is how I remove all my springs and stuff
Its very simple but works very well, as soon as the preload is off the top wishbone you undo the bolts holding the arm then release the pressure of the spring and everything else should come apart. Be very carefull if your going to do this, make sure the rod is longer than the uncompressed spring.
I cut the original torana mount back and will reweld it later, it gives me more room around the wishbone and shim area.
Trial fit after notching the crossmember
I am trying to place the crossmember high enough to clear the subframe so I only have to cut the inner guard. The torana front is narrower between the wishbone ends. This has pretty much ruled out through the fender pipes as I was originally going to do.
Can any one tell me what the gap is between the cross member mount and the subframe mount on a EK to Ek front end, basically the finished rubber thickness between the mounts if that makes sence ?

ITS SHMEAGIAN HI EK 283 DO YOU WONT TO SELL YOUR ATHERE FRONT END KEEP THE PIC OFF THE TORANA FRONT COMING IM THINKING OFF DOING THE SAME

Hi Guys,
Only had a couple of hours in the shed today ( Kids sports ).
Not a great deal to see but lots of painstaking measurements more measurements then grinding cutting etc.
The front end is now positioned, I still have to weld on the mounts, need to get them off the old EK front end. Thank god I kept it for 15 years cause I knew it would come in handy one day.
As Gary has shown us before there is no way the Torana front will fit without notching the rails. The measurement of the top wishbone inner edges are 690mm approx and the sub frame rails are 700mm
And again a illustration of what has to be done.
You need to notch the Torana cross member low and level enough for the rear legs to be in a relative close position to the original EK subframe.
All in all this is not a straight foward job you need to measure everything a hundred times and be patient with how much you cut away from the subframe and the notching of the cross member. This has taken me the best part of 2 days but the back is broken as they say.
