Just been out doing some tuning runs over the weekend. Getting the fuel map dialled in and playing with the enrichment settings. Tested up a steady hill of about 100 meters, medium throttle and keeping one eye on laptop and other on the road. With very little effort I'm doing 75mph! Surprised myself when I looked at the speedo.
The EFI idea was for power and drive-ability. I think I've inadvertently created a monster, this thing can really boogie!

More test runs.
Now that the weather has warmed up a bit, I've noticed two new problems. (Apart from the trimatic not shifting down when hot- I'll get to that later).
With the ambient temp reaching 30 today, the air under the bonnet is really hot. Especially when the car is stationary and the thermo kicks in. My datalogs on the ECU are showing the manifold air temp in the high 60's! This has produced two problems;
1-The (front) fuel pump, which is one of those Bosch units normally mounted in the tank, is getting too hot and becoming noisy. That will be relocated to the other side of the side firewall, in the front RH wheel arch.
2-The air intake temperature is affecting the performance of the engine. Right now, I'm using a K&N pod filter attached to the throttle body via a short elbow. Looks sexy, and the induction whistle sounds impressive.
Had a look online, found the K&N Apollo universal Closed intake filter. Still has a pod, but it's enclosed and the (flexible) intake hose can be run to a cooler area. Probably down into the airstream under the car.
So there you go, the project continues to morph- even after rego and completion. My EFI journey has now taken me to cold air intake land.
I suppose i'm just a short distance from forced induction town and intercooler land!
-Not until I sort out my moody Trimatic!
