what have you done for the lockup torque converter ? i was looking at using a relay activated by a vaccum switch to lock up the torque converter once the box was in a certain gear and the vaccum setting was right .... i tested the switch, its designed to disengage an a/c unit in a 4 cylinder for overtaking, it looked like it would work pretty ok for this application.
is the T700 the same size as a hydromatic or trimatic - ie. will it fit under the floor hump on a auto EK body?
Sounds like a good conversion.
Dont Know mate, i have to fit a CRS tunnel to fit it in, being an FB but i dont know how much rooms in a auto EK, Its bigger than the autos mentions but how much bigger i'm unsure of, sorry i cant be more help .
i dont know what i have to do for to torque converter, being out of a VN/VP i thought i just had to put the spacers in to mate it to the flex plate and that was the only mods
Guys,
You can lock the torque converter on turbo 700s and it gives you a 5th gear so to speak. I have done this in a Chev Nissan Patrol to give it better fuel economy.
In my case it was done by a switch and wiring loom to the side of the box.
I also used a light to indicate when the convertor was locked. By memory
you can get these kits from Castlemaine Electrics for about $ 110.00.
I am also using a turbo 700 from a VN V8 it has cable kickdown and the provisions for the lock up and best of all its got the chev bolt pattern.
you will know, what size wheel can the XB/XC Fuel tanks take (as a spare size), i am investigating putting one in, but would like to know the size of the spare i can carry?
As for my gearbox, it is all cable kickdown, i just have to get all that gear rom where i bought it (they have put it aside)!
i've heard that if you don't lock the torque converter the box can overheat and this is not a good thing!
as far as kick down, only the VR has the electronic kick down so your fine there.
as for mating the box you just need to grind out the bolt holes in the holden 6 flex plate to suite the vn torque converter then install the spacers and your done.
The wheel size in the xb/c tank would be restricted to approx 690mm tread to tread and 200mm wide before it sticks out. A 6 x 14 inch rim and tyre I think was the original spare for the falcons.
Here it is guys, plans initially to run twin strombergs and genie extractors, but i've since sourced a complete Strata II Turbo kit,
it wont be in and running for a while, but never the less it sould be an interesting combo, once its up and running i will start planning with some water injection.
if anybody has any information on the turbo kit or injection i would love to hear about it (i do know what i'm getting into as i have a fair bit of knowledge to start with)
these turbo kits are generally around $1500-$2500 if you can get a complete kit!
generally you have to source all the parts seperately, i've ended up with a spare exhaust manifold, carby (SU) and carby to turbo adapter, but i think in the end its worth it!
i wont be driving my car everyday, so its only for a little bit of extra fun!
i recommend, learning as much as you can about the strata kits before deciding if you want to go that road as they can cause problems like any turbo setup!
Cheers Nomad yeah still in the decisions stage as to which way im heading with the car. Hopefully i work it out before the car starts looking like a camo car ( half hot rod half original half mod)
Got started on some rust this weekend, the old man scored a welder for a brief period so this was the only sane thing to do was put him to work with it
Still need to grind the welds back and clean it all up - but you get the idea!
Drivers Side -
Passengers Side -
Front Clip Passenger Top Rail -
And the next task to tackle - previous repairs of dodgy welding & bog, going to get this blasted so we know what we are dealing with -
also if anyone can supply a rust free healthy section of this piece of guard i would be greatly appreciative!
here it is again (even though its just above)
perferably in Perth (dont want to pay to much) - but if someone over east wants to give me one i'll happily pay for postage! just pm me and let me know and i'll give you my email for a couple of photos - actually now that i think about it if anybody has inner guard sections that can be cut up to form this area also that may work, just let me know
